Niyam is seeking a UI/UX Designer to join our team in support of our work with a federal client. This role involves designing intuitive, user-centered digital experiences for both legacy and modernized systems while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, business analysts, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will bring a strong balance of creative design expertise, technical awareness, and leadership ability to deliver high-quality, accessible, and scalable solutions aligned with mission objectives. This full-time position will be hybrid to Ashburn, VA 2-3 days/week. This position is associated with a proposal submission and is contingent upon contract award. Candidates selected through this process may be considered for employment should the contract be awarded to our organization.


Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Serve as an Agile Scrum team member delivering UI/UX design solutions in iterative sprint cycles.
    • Conceptualize and design user-centered interfaces for custom software applications across legacy and modernized systems.
    • Lead the development of a consistent look-and-feel and standardized user experience across multiple applications.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders, developers, and product teams to translate business requirements into effective design solutions.
    • Create wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs to communicate concepts and user flows.
    • Establish and maintain design systems, style guides, and standardized UI components.
    • Partner with functional and technical teams to assess feasibility and refine design approaches.
    • Ensure product quality, usability, and timely delivery of design artifacts.
    • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to junior designers and team members.
    • Develop and present design strategies aligned with business goals and user needs.
    • Apply user research, feedback, and data-driven insights to inform design decisions.
    • Promote and enforce UX best practices, accessibility standards, and consistency across applications.


    Qualifications and Education Requirements:

    • US Citizenship with ability to obtain a Public Trust.
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Interactive Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Graphic Design or Human Factors.
    • At least seven (7) years of professional experience in UI/UX design, visual design, interaction design, or related roles.
    • Demonstrated experience designing responsive web applications that are intuitive and user-friendly across devices.
    • Experience building web applications (forms, workflows, etc.).
    • Proficiency with enterprise design tools such as Figma (preferred), Axure, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar.
    • Experience collaborating with product owners, developers, stakeholders, and end users.
    • Strong understanding of design trade-offs, technical constraints, and maintainability considerations.
    • Knowledge of modern front-end frameworks (e.g., Angular) and their impact on design implementation.
    • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.


    Preferred Skills:

    • Design Thinking certification (e.g., IDEO, Stanford, MIT, Cornell, or similar programs).
    • Experience designing for accessibility standards, including Section 508 compliance.
    • Background in information architecture and user flow optimization.
    • Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Angular.
    • Advanced understanding of Agile and Lean methodologies.
    • Experience developing enterprise-level design systems and UX standards.
    • Ability to educate and mentor teams on user-centered design principles and best practices.
    • Experience applying advanced UX principles to drive innovation and improve user experience outcomes.
