Role Description
The Mechanical Systems Design Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and integration of aircraft mechanical systems supporting VIP aircraft interior completion and avionics modification programs. This role collaborates with structural engineering, avionics engineering, certification, and production teams to develop installation designs and engineering instructions required for aircraft modifications. This position requires strong technical problem-solving capabilities, knowledge of aircraft mechanical systems, and the ability to support engineering activities throughout the design, certification, and production phases of aircraft completion projects.

Essential Job Functions
Develop mechanical system designs and perform engineering analysis in support of VIP aircraft interior completion and avionics modification programs. 
Create and maintain engineering drawings, design documentation, and system reports required to support STC development and aircraft modification programs. 
Develop mechanical system modification concepts and prepare installation work instructions, engineering orders (EOs), and supporting procedures. 
Support the design and integration of aircraft utility systems including air conditioning, ventilation, equipment cooling, fire and smoke detection, potable water, gray water, vacuum waste systems, oxygen, and bleed air systems. 
Review and analyze Service Bulletins (SBs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs), and other technical data, identifying potential impacts to aircraft modification programs. 
Identify discrepancies or conflicts within engineering drawings and technical documentation and develop corrective actions. 
Apply established engineering principles, company procedures, and regulatory guidance to resolve routine and moderately complex technical issues. 
Support the preparation of engineering substantiation documentation required for certification activities. 
Work closely with production and installation teams to support engineering questions during aircraft modification and completion activities. 
Maintain awareness of FAA regulations and certification requirements, ensuring engineering work complies with applicable FARs, ADs, and manufacturer requirements. 
Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, documentation standards, and design practices. 
Continue professional development in aircraft mechanical systems engineering and certification practices. 
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Systems Engineering, or a related discipline. 
Minimum 5 years of experience in aircraft mechanical systems design, aerospace engineering, or aircraft modification engineering. 
Experience supporting aircraft modification, STC development, or aircraft completion programs preferred. 
Familiarity with FAA certification processes and aircraft regulatory compliance requirements. 
Experience reviewing aircraft technical documentation including maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and airworthiness directives.

Required Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools; SolidWorks preferred. 
Working knowledge of aircraft mechanical systems including environmental control, plumbing, oxygen, and utility systems. 
Understanding of aerospace engineering documentation standards and drawing practices. 
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, aircraft technical manuals, and certification documentation. 
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts. 
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in complex engineering environments. 
Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple engineering tasks simultaneously. 
Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, production, quality, and certification teams.

Work Environment
This position is based in an aircraft hangar environment and may involve:
Exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions
Loud noise levels
Use of heavy machinery and specialized tools
Potential contact with chemicals or hazardous materials
Working in confined aircraft interior spaces
