Responsibilities

As an Operations Manager, you are responsible for administrative and technical management for outside plant construction projects and the direction of underground construction, including directional drilling, aerial construction, and splicing through subordinate managers. You believe in doing the job right. Being the best. And you’re up for the challenge.

In addition, you will:

  • Oversee total construction effort to ensure projects are constructed by design, budget, and schedule
  • Interface with field managers, clients, subcontractors, and owners to assure customer satisfaction
  • Plan, coordinate, and/or supervise activities of all operations’ employees on assigned projects
  • Confer with project personnel to update project schedules every week
  • Keep direct contact with projects in progress by visiting project sites
  • Assist in disputes on all projects, negotiating as required to resolve construction problems
  • Oversee all bid projects, including P&L responsibility and management of fleet assets dedicated to bid projects
  • Work with the Office Manager to ensure compliance with all internal reporting deadlines
  • Prepare weekly revenue and cost reports
  • Prepare and submit invoices every week
  • Work to resolve all accounts receivable invoices over 51 days
  • Ensure all company, client, and project policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to and interpret policies as required
  • Cultivate and continuously seek to enhance an in-depth understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc., and their impact on project activities
  • Assist with the implementation/interpretation of safety programs
  • Liaise with estimating to ensure projects comply with cost, revenue, and schedule
  • Examine estimates of material, equipment, production costs, performance requirements, and delivery schedules to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Prepare status reports and modify schedules or plans as required
  • Prepare project reports for management, client, or others, including dollar estimates to complete and variance analysis for significant items
  • Analyze projects for adherence to budget and percentage of profitability
  • Directly supervise 4 to 8 Construction Managers, Project Managers, and Construction Supervisors
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities such as training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints or resolving problems according to company policies
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned

  • You have a knack for figuring out hard problems and enjoy a hands-on approach to your work
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Have 5 years of management-level experience in outside plant construction
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Able to write reports and business correspondence
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only standardization exists
  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Have strong organizational and business management skills
  • Have proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
