Position Summary

The Paint Defect Analyst is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and improving paint quality performance within a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on data-driven problem solving, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects per unit (DPU) and support customer quality expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of painted surfaces and components to identify, analyze, and categorize paint defects by layer and defect type;
  • Perform quality audits and communicate significant defect trends, quality concerns, and corrective actions to customer stakeholders;
  • Lead weekly defect review meetings and support root cause investigations for recurring paint defects;
  • Utilize Fishbone diagrams, Pareto charts, trend analysis, and other quality tools to identify root causes and drive corrective actions;
  • Track, document, and report paint quality data, defect trends, and performance against established quality targets;
  • Develop and maintain the Known Defect Library to support consistent defect identification and troubleshooting;
  • Lead continuous improvement and defect reduction initiatives, including DPU reduction and cost-saving projects utilizing Kaizen principles;
  • Collaborate with production teams, suppliers, and customers to resolve paint quality issues and implement best practices;
  • Utilize microscopes and other inspection equipment to determine defect origin and support quality investigations;
  • Ensure compliance with all quality, safety, and customer requirements.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred;
  • 2+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing, paint quality, quality inspection, or a related manufacturing environment;
  • Experience identifying and analyzing paint defects and conducting root cause investigations;
  • Knowledge of quality tools such as Fishbone Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, trend analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies;
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and structured problem-solving techniques;
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills;
  • Knowledge of automotive paint quality standards is considered an asset;
  • Understanding of lockout/tagout procedures, confined space requirements, and workplace safety practices.
