Job description

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is looking for a dedicated Decedent Affairs Coordinator to join the team!  This role will be PRN, Weekend days, 8:30am-2:30pm

Decedent Affairs Coordinator Job Responsibilities:

  • Documents information in support of complex case management. 
  • Manages the Decedent Affairs process and communicates information to the Decedent Affairs team. 
  • Makes determinations on each death and reports all appropriate deaths to the County Medical Examiner and/or State Medical Examiner in accordance with state laws.
  • Manages the activities of patient deaths from the time of death to the final disposition of remains. 
  • Performs critical identification functions to ensure the right body goes to the right funeral home. 
  • Acting as gatekeeper for morgue admissions/removals while ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission and Red Rules requirements to reduce the legal liability of the hospital.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree (or relevant experience in lieu of degree equivalent to 4 years)
  • Years of Experience: Two years of experience in healthcare, social work or science field setting

Preferred Requirements:

  • Decedent Affairs experience preferred
