Job description

Laboratory Technician

Location: Lynchburg, VA 24501

Pay rate: $28-$29

Schedule: 7 am - 3:30pm M-F

Duration: 6 months with possibility of extension

Job Summary:

Our client is looking to hire an R&D Chemist to work in our Lynchburg, VA plant. You will work in a laboratory setting to conduct research on new or existing product formulas with minimal supervision. Typical projects will include new product development, modification of existing products, raw material evaluations, benchmarking studies, sample preparations, color matching, batch process review and specification testing. The R&D Chemist is expected to design and document all projects and to be familiar with all appropriate product performance application methods, performance testing methods, QC test procedures and factory processes. This role has responsibility for the scale-up of batches and collaboration with QC as needed.

The scope of products supported by this position can range from solvent-based contact adhesives and water-based adhesives (both brush-applied and spray-applied to a variety of substrates), hot melts, and other solvated rubber technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhesive formulation and development.
  • Current product support: Updating formulations, dealing with customer complaints/questions, maintaining certifications.
  • Work with project management to develop new products while driving organized development processes.
  • Support manufacturing when needed.
  • Technical lead on assigned product lines.

Requirements:

  • BS in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or related field preferred, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong ability to work on a team and drive collaboration
  • Ability to present technical work to business teams and interact with outside suppliers
  • Self-motivated and organized
