General Description of Position
This posting is a general pool application to volunteer in the UPWARD department at the SCC Lincoln campus. This position is to volunteer and is unpaid.
Under the general direction and supervision of the Administrative Director, UPWARD, the UPWARD Ambassador Volunteer will assist re-entry students who are transitioning from a prison education program to an on-campus program to learn about opportunities at Southeast Community College and to help students develop a relationship with the College and establish a sense of belonging. This volunteer will offer opportunities to build and utilize skills in public speaking, time management, collaboration, customer service, hospitality, leadership, communication, peer support, and professionalism. The UPWARD Ambassador experience is an excellent skill set to market to future employers, for scholarship opportunities, and on your resume. The UPWARD Ambassador will volunteer in the UPWARD Connect Center at the SCC Lincoln Campus. This is a part-time temporary, unpaid position.
Essential Functions
  1. Provide tours of the College to transitioning students.
  2. Staff the UPWARD Connect Center and provide information specific to transitioning students.
  3. Assist with special events including working with community-based organizations on campus.
  4. Develop an in-depth knowledge of the College and attend and participate in training opportunities.
  5. Work with Educational Navigators to get students acclimated to on-campus resources.
  6. Complete general UPWARD Connect Center office tasks including, but not limited to, mailings, general office work, stocking supplies, event set up/tear down, etc. on an as-needed basis.
  7. Provide peer support if applicable.

Marginal Functions
  1. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
  2. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  3. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Ability to lift and carry up to (15) fifteen pounds for short distances, and move tables, chairs, and presentation equipment.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively both in writing, in person, and on the phone.
  3. Ability to use basic computer skills.
  4. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Previous experience with the UPWARD program or lived experience in a carceral environment.
