This opportunity entails being responsible for performing daily field inspections of New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYC DDC) infrastructure projects to ensure contractor work complies with project plans and specifications. The role includes monitoring construction activities related to water main, sewer, roadway, and sidewalk construction performed by the contractor. The Inspector documents field conditions, verifies construction methods and materials, and reports progress to ensure adherence to standards established by the NYC DEP, NYC DOT, and NYC DDC. This position supports quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and the successful delivery of public infrastructure improvements.
What You'll Do:
  • Inspects, observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents, and plans. Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications.
  • Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform complicated mathematical calculations and measurements of completed work to date.
  • Maintains Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contactor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.
  • Performs on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketches as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and 6 years of construction related experience.
  • All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements

What You'll Bring:
  • Perform daily site inspections of water main, sewer, sidewalk, and roadway infrastructure activities to ensure work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and applicable standards from the New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYC DDC), New York City Department of Environmental Protection(NYC DEP), and New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT).
  • Prepare Daily Inspection Report in accordance with NYC DDC requirements.
  • Verify that materials, construction methods, and workmanship comply with NYC DDC, NYC DOT, and NYC DEP standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of daily work activities, labor, equipment, and installed quantities. .
  • Document and report field issues or deviations from plans and communicate inspection findings to the Resident Engineer.
  • Monitor and enforce site safety requirements, including compliance with OSHA regulations and NYC DDC safety protocols.

What We Prefer:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil Engineering preferred) or valid NICET Certification.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in construction inspection; experience on projects with the NYC DDC preferred.
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I Certification
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification.
