Job description

Records Technician - Detention

The Records Technician - Detention performs limited supervisory and routine clerical work in regards to the preservation and destruction of County records. This position oversees microfilming, scanning, indexing, processing, and storing of county records ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures, and assists and advises direct reports as necessary in resolving problems as non-routine situations arise.

Operates and manages computer data entry equipment, reader printers, imaging hardware and software, microfilming equipment, and electronic records program. Ensures compliance with established policies, procedures, standards, and federal and local government laws for paper, microfilmed, and electronic records, storage centers, and digital records in custody. Handles all tasks assigned for customer service, scanning, microfilming, indexing, warehouse storage, and disposition projects. Updates computerized inventory of records stored on paper, microfilm, and electronic format. Performs quality control of records processed from intake to disposition. Provides assistance in managing the records center as directed. Provides weekly written reports to management. Recommends ways to improve customer service and efficiency. Improves and maintains knowledge of records management standards. Acts as liaison between county departments, the public, and the records department in problem resolution. Promotes and actively supports the department's mission, vision, and core values. Regular and punctual attendance is required. Performs other related duties as required.

High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Completion of some college-level coursework in management or law enforcement is preferred. Must be a U.S. citizen. Must not have any Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications. Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment.
