Job description

Job Title

Functions of Position:

1. Prepping medical records – inpatient, outpatient, ER, OBV, sleep study, and cardiac rehab

2. Scanning medical records – inpatient, outpatient, ER, OBV, sleep study, and cardiac rehab

3. Quality control (QC) check on medical records – inpatient, outpatient, ER, OBV, and sleep study

4. Analyze medical records for deficiencies (paper and electronically)

5. P-work list – re-analyzing emergency department medical records

6. Assist coders with documentation requests

7. Check for physician orders and signatures in the analysis and re-analysis pool

8. Retrieve, prep, scan, QC and analyze loose sheets and insert into the correct medical record

9. Input patients into the patient portal system

10. Review and correct the medical record deficiencies in the pre-analysis work list

11. Merge medical record numbers from patients listed on the duplicate number list

12. Assist with correspondence as requested by the release of information technician

13. Perform preventative maintenance on the scanning equipment

14. Perform preventative maintenance on the photocopier and fax machines

15. Perform final quality control check on all medical records before committing to the permanent file

16. Answer telephone calls on multiple lines and complete the phone requests

17. Assist with walk-in requests for information

18. Print lists for all patient types for reconciliation

19. Assist physicians with requests

20. Assist physicians with Sorian computer system

21. Complete the Missouri birth certificate facility worksheets

22. Complete the spreadsheet containing all pertinent data on the mother and newborn

23. Pick up fetal monitor strips from obstetrics and box according to discharge date

24. Fax information to other healthcare facilities and physicians

25. Review Muse for any EKGs that need reprinting

26. Work with producing records from the computer system

27. Search for dictation in Webmedx

28. Reproduce medical records from microfilm

29. Any other duties assigned

Qualifications:

Education: High school graduate. Two-year college degree preferred.

Experience: Past experience in health information management procedures is helpful, but not required. Knowledge of medical terminology is an asset.

Special:

Patient contact: Minimal

Typing: 35 words per minute, preferred.

Machine operation: Computers, printers, scanners, color printers, fax machine, reader printer, multifunction devices.

Physical:

Standing: Minimal

Sitting: Must be able to sit at desk for long periods of time.

Walking: Minimal

Lifting: Must be able to lift light loads such as stacks of medical records (25 pounds).

Visual: Must have the ability to see and read medical records, computer screens, computer generated reports, and all other tools used in the performance of the job.

Hearing: Must have the ability to receive and understand telephone calls, i.e. doctors, healthcare professionals, insurance companies, etc.

Speaking: Must be able to speak clearly and verbally communicate with doctors, healthcare professionals, insurance companies, etc.

Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm
