Mail Processing Clerk
Starting pay range: $16.0750 - $17.7028
Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday

Job Summary
The Mail Processing Clerk performs tasks in operating andmaintaining various types of mail processing equipment to process anddistribute incoming and outgoing interdepartmental mail at the Law and JusticeCenter and other county facilities. An employee in this classification worksunder general supervision, in accordance with mail processing practices andapplicable U.S. Postal Service regulations, as well as internal procedures andguidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Picks up incoming mail from the post office by countyvehicle and sorts incoming mail and packages by departmental location.
- Distributes incoming and inter-office mail to departmentallocations and picks up outgoing and inter-office mail.
- Processes mailings by prioritizing pick lists, determiningappropriate postal category, and applying postage; maintains and verifiespostage account records.
- Sort and prepare all outgoing mail by department for pickupservice.
- Obtains postal supplies as needed.
- Deliver copy paper to county departments as needed.
- Deliver all incoming packages from delivery services to allcounty departments.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of local government operations, Human Resourcerelated programs, policies and plans, and modern office practices andprocedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and othersimilar programs.
- Ability to acquire the skills necessary to operate mailprocessing equipment accurately and efficiently in accordance withmanufacturer's guidelines.
- Ability to learn U.S. Postal Service rates and regulations.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and writteninstructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and inwriting.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with other employees and supervisors.
- Ability to possess the physical strength, agility, anddexterity required in performing work.
- Ability to deal properly with confidential and sensitivematters.
Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Illinois Driver's License.
Prior mail room experience preferred but not required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently,and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires theability to balance, climb, bend, kneel, lift, and push/pull various objects,stoop, walk, and stand. Requires mental acuity including the ability to makerational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability toexpress ideas by means of the spoken word and possess close visual acuity.
Work is performed primarily indoors in a mail room settingand requires some daily travel outside of office settings to County facilities.
