Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists Departmental Director in all aspects of Southern Union Conference ITS operations with special emphasis on the Union's datacenter and core infrastructure. Manages the enterprise server systems, virtualization platforms, storage, and backup systems. Provides senior-level technical leadership and assists with infrastructure security, system upgrades, and disaster recovery planning. Provides technical support and assistance to the Southern Union Office, Conferences and entities, as needed. Manages ITS personnel in the absence of Director, or as requested. This position demands working onsite unless job demands being in the field.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinates with Director in planning and implementing the overall strategy of the ITS department.
  • Accompany director in visiting and assisting the conferences/institutions.
  • Manages and maintains the Union's servers, virtualization, storage, and datacenter infrastructure.
  • Oversee backup systems, ensure disaster recovery and business continuity readiness.
  • Assists with maintaining data integrity, system availability, and performance.
  • Manages the implementation and maintenance of infrastructure security controls, including data protection, security frameworks, and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinates with vendors and contracted service providers related to infrastructure systems.
  • Assist with end user support and/or duties as assigned by the Director.

RECOMMENDED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • BS/AS degree in Information Systems Management or related field.
  • Minimum of five years' experience managing systems operations, datacenters and infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with enterprise servers, virtualization, storage, and backup solutions.
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure security best practices.
  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and Hyper-V.
  • IT Certifications include, but not limited to: MSCE, MCSA, MCTS, Network+, Security+.
  • Five years' SDA organizational experience managing an ITS department.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL:
Knowledge of principles, policies, and beliefs of the Southern Union Conference and Seventh-day Adventist Church. Knowledge of church structure and organization, including committee procedures, etc. Knowledge and skills in appropriate methods of dealing with human behavior in various circumstances. Advanced command of language skills, including proficiency in verbal and written form.
Ability in strategic planning, leadership and organization. Ability to develop long-and short-term plans and programs; and to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal/external personnel. Must possess advanced ability to effectively present facts and recommendations in oral and written form.
CONTACTS, ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Contact with church leaders, outside organizations, and lay people, as well as Southern Union personnel at all levels. Must possess advanced interpersonal skills and project a professional Christian image.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to read, speak, and hear in the English language. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Some standing, walking, bending, kneeling, carrying infrastructure items, etc. are required. This position requires working onsite. Must be able to travel extensively in all parts of the Southern Union territory under varying conditions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Essential responsibilities are performed in sedentary and comfortable manner. Tasks are usually performed under normal office conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lit and ventilated. Conditions may be difficult on itinerary with some irregularity in hours.
