Job description

Provide leadership and initiative in the overall coordination of high level and detailed design deliverables including designs for technical architecture and system interfaces to meet business requirements/specifications for significant projects. As needed, apply specialized technical knowledge to advise other teams and recommend solutions to technical design problems. Lead and/or assist in resolution of complex production problems. Mentor development of those in less senior positions.


Essential Functions

About the Role - The Database Advisor will provide technical leadership in the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise database solutions. This individual will support large-scale database development and administration efforts, perform root cause analysis, ensure data quality and appropriate database usage, and serve as a key liaison between business customers, development teams, and support groups. The ideal candidate has strong database administration experience, understands both relational and NoSQL design concepts, and can help drive scalable, reliable, and cost-effective database solutions in a modern cloud environment.

  • Provide leadership in the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of database solutions across enterprise systems and applications.
  • Perform root cause analysis for database issues, performance concerns, outages, incidents, and recurring system problems.
  • Support coding, testing, documentation, and implementation efforts for multiple large-scale database and development projects.
  • Partner with business customers, development teams, infrastructure teams, and support groups to understand requirements and deliver effective database solutions.
  • Ensure database quality control, auditing, governance, and appropriate use of data across supported environments.
  • Lead or support database migrations, upgrades, enhancements, and modernization efforts with a focus on stability, scalability, and minimal business disruption.
  • Design, review, and optimize database structures, data models, schemas, queries, indexes, and performance-related configurations.
  • Support relational and NoSQL database environments, including design considerations for scalability, availability, and maintainability.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to database architecture, processes, standards, procedures, and project deliverables.
  • Serve as a team lead liaison between business, development, and support teams to ensure clear communication, alignment, and successful delivery.
  • Coach, mentor, and support the development of less experienced DBAs and technical team members.
  • Monitor database environments, troubleshoot errors, review logs, and identify opportunities to improve reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Support cost optimization, capacity planning, and efficient use of database and cloud resources.
  • Ensure deliverables are completed accurately, on time, and in alignment with business and technical requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong experience with database administration, database design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting large-scale database projects, production environments, or enterprise systems.
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts, data modeling, database structures, indexing, performance tuning, and query optimization.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and resolve complex database or system-related issues.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and technical communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with business users, developers, infrastructure teams, support teams, and technical leadership.
  • Experience supporting database quality control, auditing, standards, and appropriate data usage.

  • Ability to provide technical guidance, mentor junior DBAs, and act as a lead liaison across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Terraform.
  • Experience with Python & Ansible.
  • Experience supporting low-downtime or zero-downtime database migrations.
  • Data modeling skills across both NoSQL and relational database environments.
  • PostgreSQL / Postgres experience.
  • Experience with FinOps, cost optimization, or cloud resource cost management.
  • Experience with cloud monitoring tools, including Cloud Monitoring and MQL.
  • Experience with Cloud Logging and Error Reporting.
  • Experience with Cloud KMS and CMEK.
  • Experience working in cloud-based database environments.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree, in computer science, engineering, information system or related field and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.


Minimum Experience

Requires five (5) or more years qualifying work experience in information technology or engineering environment. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.


Domicile Information

This position can be domiciled anywhere in the United States. The ability to work remotely within the United States may be available based on business need.
