Summary:
The Database Administrator is responsible for providing technical expertise necessary to oversee multi-faceted and multi-user environments within the hospital, affiliates and remote users; serving as a resource for evaluating, selecting and installing technology components required for integration of data into existing information systems. The Database Administrator is responsible for managing data processes; including establishing parameters for consistency of data definitions and elements; monitoring integrity of data coming from multiple sources; developing and maintaining metadata and its repository; defining appropriate access levels and structuring access to the appropriate data sources; determining and maintaining appropriate refresh rates to meet user needs. The Database Administrator will also oversee interface operations; including the development and maintenance of real-time and batch interfaces; process downloads and other operational processes. In addition, the Database Administrator will establish and direct the use of program specifications and standards; insuring system security, integrity and efficient utilization of automated systems. This includes the development of disaster backup and recovery plans. The incumbent will oversee the design of all reports and statistical data requested by users and/or required for accreditation/reporting purposes. The Database Administrator will participate in the development of that portion of the budget as it relates to the systems and applications they support.
The Database Administrator must have an in-depth understanding of the business and service goals of the Ballad Health enterprise in order to provide technical advice and guidance in fulfilling the IS Department mission; proactively seeking new methodologies to insure the use of cost effective database solutions necessary to meet the needs of all users.
The Database Administrator must possess initiative, sound judgment and high aptitude for organization and attention to detail required in performing job duties. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Excellent organization skills are necessary. The desire to provide exceptional customer service is required. Above average intelligence is necessary to comprehend complex system inter-relationships and operational processes.
Requirements:
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Healthcare, Business or Computer Science) with 3 years of relative experience. Candidates with an Associate's Degree will require an additional 5 years of experience in a similar position. In lieu of a degree, 7+ years of experience in system support, design, analysis and troubleshooting with successful performance in a position of similar duties will be required.
