Role: Data Product Owner
Location: Remote - USA
Full time role
Job description:
Role supporting our Sports & Media client.
We are looking for candidates with strong data product ownership experience, including working with business and technical stakeholders, managing product roadmaps and requirements, and driving data-focused initiatives end-to-end.
Overview /Objective
We are looking for a Data Product Owner with experience in building data products from the ground up. This role will be accountable for how data products are developed and delivered primarily related to the Game (Football and Player Health and Safety). This will include ensuring that the end-to-end data pipelines supporting the Game are being developed in a scalable, repeatable and well-governed way. Initially, this role will focus on collaborating with cross-functional data professionals within Football and Player, Health and Safety domains to migrate data from legacy environments into our central data platform called Gridiron. Due to specialization in legacy to Gridiron migration, there could be some other data domains with high priority migration needs that would fall within this scope. This leader will also partner and collaborate with stakeholders across Data and Analytics, the League & possibly Clubs.
The successful candidate would demonstrate an established background in data, good technical depth, excellent product/project management skills, superb communication and stakeholder management skills, and the motivation to achieve tangible results in a dynamic environment. This Data Product Owner would connect strategic priorities and requirements from business and senior Data and Analytics stakeholders and work with a interdisciplinary team of data specialists (data engineers, architects, and analysts) to prioritize and execute the deliverables.
Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with stakeholders to shape the D&A vision/roadmap and steer cross-functional data team in delivering data products to support analytics and BI.
  2. This person would be expected to become the PHS/Football team's subject matter expert on our Central Data team platform called "Gridiron".
  3. Support strategic thinking on prioritizing data migration efforts out of legacy environments and into Gridiron.
  4. Be a steward of the league's Game data assets, maximizing use to support business outcomes.
  5. Work in an agile environment, continuously reviewing business needs, prioritizing and maintaining the backlog, refining roadmaps, planning sprints and identifying opportunities and risks.
  6. Provide hands-on leadership in facilitating design sessions and drive decision making while balancing short-term benefits vs. long-term strategic outlook.
  7. Support cross-functional pod in the clarification of requirements and features along with the DoD and acceptance criteria.
  8. Partner with engineering leaders to balance the delivery of product features that drive the business vs. platform foundational capabilities that drive scalability and resiliency.
  9. Build a culture of learning, knowledge sharing and high performance. Assign tasks based on skills, strength and the learning & development needs of pod members.
  10. Advocate for the highest standards of technical and operational excellence. Ensure we're building highly scalable and repeatable capabilities in the best manner possible.

Required Qualifications
  1. University degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related field.
  2. 8+ years of relevant experience in a product owner, delivery lead or team lead capacity.
  3. 5+ years of relevant experience in leading the development of data products, cloud data platforms, data lakes or data warehouses.
  4. Proven track record of delivering impactful products to market, enabling stakeholder use cases
  5. Vast experience in software development life cycle, agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
  6. Excellent knowledge of Jira and confluence.
  7. Strong detail orientation, communication and interpersonal skills are essential in this role.
  8. Ability to effectively liaise with all levels across the organization.
