Position Summary:
The Manager of Data Management is responsible for leading a team of both Database Administrators and SAP BASIS Administrators at UGI. The databases included under this position's responsibilities includes but are not limited to are SAP HANA, MS SQL Server, DB2 zOS, DB2 Federated, Oracle and Post Gres. The Manager is responsible for overseeing the architecture of any data models that are locally developed and assuring that any purchased application software aligns with company standards and strategies. The manager plans and supervises all activities related to SAP BASIS related activities and support of ongoing projects. Develops standards and procedures to insure the integrity of the data. Allocates resources to properly staff project work in addition to KTLO (Keep The Lights On) activities. Manages staff activities, reviews and evaluates performance, confers with team on policies, technical problems, priorities, methods, and strategic direction. Prepares annual budget and determines training requirements. Communicates with management, information Technology (IT) users, vendors, and other IT areas to coordinate data related activities.
Essential Functions:
  • Leads, advises and develops team of SAP BASIS and Database Administrators. Provides guidance and support for both staff and contractors to ensure project deliverables and KTLO activities are delivered with quality implementations. Works with Infrastructure and application team leads to drive standard policies and security practices. Collaborates with Team leads and senior personnel to assign work and ensure less experienced personnel are being mentored and growing with respect to their current positions.
  • Partner with SAP application teams, development teams, Infrastructure/System Admin teams and business stakeholders to understand database requirements for new projects and initiatives. Understand business requirements as they relate to database architecture and design specifications. Provide technical expertise and guidance during project planning, cutover, implementation and back out processing for major project implementations. Assess the database impact of new applications, integrations, and business growth. Develop and document technical solutions that align with enterprise architecture standards. Coordinate database activities across multiple concurrent projects and business units. Assure that database inventory is up to date and software that falls under the team is licensed properly.
  • Provide regular status updates to senior leadership on database operations, project progress, and strategic initiatives in addition to other KPI (Key Performance Indicators) required. Identify and escalate risks, issues, and resource constraints that may impact project delivery or operations. These should include collaboration with the Cyber Security team to identify high priority vulnerabilities. Ensure patching and maintenance is kept current where possible. Communicate future plans and technical concepts to a variety of audiences both functional and technical. Participate in regular leadership meetings and roadmap sessions.
  • Assist with planning, budgeting and aligning resources to meet project and KTLO expectations. Plans and estimates project resource requirements and monitor cost and resource usage. Forecast resource capitalization for team member (employees/contractors)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Expert knowledge of relational database architecture, administration, and performance tuning
  • Strong proficiency with SAP BASIS responsibilities/tasks in addition to backend database administration across multiple database platforms.
  • Previous Database Administration/BASIS administration desirable.
  • Solid experience with RDBMS performance tuning, backup/recovery, and database design.
  • Understanding of database replication, high availability, and disaster recovery technologies
  • Proficiency with database backup and recovery tools (Cohesity, Commvault or similar)
  • Knowledge of database security best practices and compliance requirements
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, multi-tasking, balancing work based on priority.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop a good rapport with other team leaders, technical staff, vendors and contractors.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred
  • Preferred: At least 8 years of progressive experience in database administration with enterprise-scale systems. Three or more of those years leading a team.
  • Preferred: 5+ years of hands-on experience with SAP HANA and BASIS administration
  • ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) Foundation Certificate (at hire within 12 months in position)
