Job Description โ€“Medical Data Entry Clerk
Classification โ€“ FSLA - Non-Exempt - hourly

Reports to
Revenue Cycle Manager
Summary/Objective
Medical Data Entry Clerk is responsible for the entry of patient demographics into the practice management system. The clerk may also be responsible for the creation of the visit and claim information.
Essential Functions
Verifies accuracy and completeness of patient data.
Reviews hospital data capture/patient facesheets to ensure accurate demographic set up.
Organizes and maintains the input of patient data into the practice management system.
Validates the patient insurance eligibility within the practice management system.
Assists the medical billing team with the creation of the visit/claim in the practice management system.
Ensure prior authorization numbers are added to visit entry.
Assists the medical billing team with the charge entry (CPT, ICD-10 codes) on the claim.
Batch and submit claims to appropriate insurance source.
Works with other departments or facilities to resolve accounts with errors.
Ensure that daily deadlines are met with accuracy and precision.
Assists the billing team with other billing related tasks such as medical record claim requests, faxing, scanning, etc.
Adhere to defined department goals and activity metrics.
Other duties as assigned by Revenue Cycle Manager.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of computers including but not limited to medical practice management system(s), Microsoft Word and Excel.
Experience in medical billing and data entry.
10 key by touch, 60 wpm preferred.
Strong attention to detail.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
Problem solving, time management and exceptional interpersonal skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Work Environment
This job operates in a medical office facility.
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, view computer screens for long period of time, answering calls on a multi-line phone system, writing, reading and note taking.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, varying hours between 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. unless otherwise agreed upon. This is an on-site position.
