What you will be doing:

This Coop role within DTE - RPMS Lab Solutions will support the exploration and design of a unified approach to tracking laboratory assets and lab software across the enterprise. The role focuses on improving visibility into where lab assets (PCs, software, cybersecurity coverage, instruments, and modular components) are located, how they are used, and how both physical and digital assets move through their lifecycle.

The co-op will work on a project-oriented assignment that evaluates IoT-enabled asset tracking solutions alongside centralized lab software procurement and usage data. By integrating these perspectives, the role aims to improve operational efficiency, support compliance and audit readiness, and enable more informed sourcing and investment decisions. Work may leverage vendor solutions to prototype concepts, analyze data, and document recommendations for future-state solutions.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Assess current-state processes for tracking lab assets and lab software, identifying gaps in visibility, utilization, maintenance, and lifecycle management
  • Explore and evaluate IoT-based approaches for tracking lab assets (e.g., PCs, instruments, modules), including location, status, and maintenance indicators
  • Analyze lab software procurement, licensing, and usage data to identify underutilization, renewal risks, and opportunities for cost optimization
  • Support the design of dashboards, data models, or conceptual architectures that combine physical asset data with software usage and contract information
  • Develop and document user stories and workflows for key stakeholders, including lab managers, scientists, IT administrators, finance, compliance, and strategic sourcing
  • Define and track project lead measures such as percentage of assets or software centrally tracked, alert resolution rates, and turnaround time for software access requests
  • Summarize findings, insights, and recommendations in presentations or written deliverables for both technical and business audiences

What you will need to succeed:

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Information Systems, Engineering, Hard Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Bioengineering), Data Analytics, Supply Chain, or another related field

  • Interest in lab environments, IoT, asset management, software lifecycle management, or strategic sourcing

  • Experience working with data and basic analytics tools (e.g. Excel, SQL, Power BI, or similar)

  • Familiarity with concepts such as IT/Software or lab asset management, procurement, licensing, or compliance is a plus but not required

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with the ability to clearly communicate findings

  • Ability to work independently on project-based assignments while collaborating with cross-functional teams

  • Capacity to work full-time onsite in Boston, MA

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships or entry level roles within this part of the organization.

  • You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before December 2026

  • You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from July - December 2026

Program Details:

  • Full-time, paid co-op $20.00 - 35.00 USD/hour

  • Program Dates: July - December 2026

  • Application Deadline: April 3rd, 2026
