Job description

JAS is an international, non-asset-based supply chain services and solutions company. Our services include air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage, distribution, inbound logistics, truckload brokerage and other supply chain management services, including consulting, the coordination of purchase orders and customized management services.
The Customs Brokerage Manager oversees the import customs house broker processes and ensures compliance with US laws and regulations, as well as JAS Forwarding operations procedures. This position is responsible for completion of all import and Customs house Broker transactions in an accurate and timely manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Customs Broker Manager is responsible for compliance, training, recordkeeping, and supervision of all customhouse broker and import personnel.
  • Responsible for all transactions and interactions with United States Customs and Border Protection (US CBP), Importer Security Filing (ISF), Container Freight Station (CFS) and all other government agencies on the local level (local port requirements as well as state requirements) and on the National Level, which includes Remote Location Filing (RLF)and out-port entries.
  • Educate and train the staff. Supports individuals in identifying and addressing performance gaps to enhance skills and capabilities.
  • Educate and assist customers on compliance requirements for US Customs and Border Protection and other government agencies, providing resources and training as needed.
  • Provide guidance to customers with general import concerns, including Classification, Valuation, Preferential Trade Programs, and Post Entry work.
  • Ensure the subordinates are organized, productive, and compliant with all government and Company requirements.
  • Supervise and monitor closely Importer Security Filings (ISF) filings to ensure 100% compliance.
  • Ensure all duty payments, duty statements, Automated Clearinghouse (ACH )statements and Periodic Monthly Statements (PMS ) are paid timely with all Company outlays following the corporate guidelines for duty advancements.
  • Be the subject matter expert (SME) for the Entry Processing sector, ensuring team successfully complies with JAS customer care standards
  • Partner with the local central dispatching team to oversee the day-to-day freight movement and ensure the workflow is adequately managed, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and handling any escalated issues from your team

.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Directly and/or indirectly supervise one or more employees
  • Train, supervise and advise entry writers and import personnel of JAS USA in the entry, importation, storage and transportation of goods in U.S.
  • Manage, direct, and evaluate the work of employees.
  • Responsible for annual employment reviews.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge, including any needed continuing education of the regulations and procedures of the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) for the classification and entry of the goods along with other government agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of customs laws, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Food Drug Administration (FDA), Fish and Wildlife (US F&W) and other government agencies.
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Cargo Wise platform (preferred)
  • Detail oriented, able to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, able to work in a team and independently.
  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of this position without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of self or others.
  • Able to interact positively and effectively with co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and government officials.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be a Licensed Customer Broker (LCB)
  • Five years' experience in the logistics or forwarding industry
  • A minimum of 3 years working in a supervisory role
  • A minimum of 4 years' experience working in customs brokerage and understanding customs regulations
  • Bilingual is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.

ENVIRONMENT:
100% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, talk and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stop, kneel and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds. This position requires employee to frequently work in a fluid, fast paced environment.

For this position, the pay range is $120,000 - $135,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. This range represents the full compensation potential for this role, and the specific compensation offered to the selected candidate will be based on factors such as skills, experience, and other relevant qualifications. In addition to base salary, JAS Forwarding offers a comprehensive benefits package, including dental, vision, and health insurance, 401(k), bonuses (depending on role) etc.
