POSITION TITLE:
Director of Curriculum and Instruction
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Superintendent
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the organization, implementation, evaluation, supervision and coordination of all instructional programs from Early Childhood through Grade Twelve. Additionally, responsible for the coordination and supervision of all district assessments and testing programs, technology, federal programs, professional development, student services, and all building administrative and instructional personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational Preparation
Master's Degree or higher with an Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent Certificate preferred
Successful experience in educational administration/or business
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE:
At least five years as a building administrator and/or Central Office administrator
Evidence of administrative knowledge, experience, and responsibility in specific areas of assignment as listed below:
JOB DUTIES
  • Work with the Superintendent, building administration, and staff in development, implementation, execution, and evaluation of all programming related to teaching and learning.
  • Provide leadership to the certificated staff in the interpretation, implementation, and compliance with Elementary and Secondary State Standards.
  • Serve as the District's liaison for students who are homeschooled.
  • Oversee and approve all Field Trips
  • Oversee Federal Title Programs, including but not limited to: Title I, Title II-A and II-D, Title IV, Title V, Pre-School, I.D.E.A.-B, Homeless, CCIP, Non-Public
  • Gifted Education
  • Ensure that school programs and services are provided in compliance with Federal laws, State Board of Education standards, and local policies
  • Provide information for Educational Management Information System, Data Manager, and all records, reports and files that relate directly or indirectly to the assigned programs, services, students and personnel
  • Work with the Superintendent on administrative assignments and evaluation
  • Work with Building Principals and Administrators in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of certificated staff
  • Work with the building principals on the day-to-day operations of their buildings
  • Promote the continued improvement of instruction through evaluation, revision, and development of programs, curriculum, and instructional services
  • Seek and use grant monies effectively to enhance curriculum development, provide for innovation, and to support teacher development
  • Provide leadership in developing continuity and unity of programs, curriculum, and instructional services from building to building and grade to grade in all curricular and co-curricular areas
  • Serve as chairperson for Course of Study Committees
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of the District's One Plan
  • Coordinate and supervise the formation of and work of all committees related to instruction and curriculum
  • Coordinate and supervise the selection, adoption, and purchase of all textbooks, supplemental materials, and equipment
  • Expand and oversee educational opportunities, including CTE programming, for all students
  • Coordinate on-going teacher development through planned in-service, professional meetings, and visitations
  • In conjunction with building administrators and other curriculum leaders, supervise the development of professional meetings for staff
  • Visit schools and classrooms regularly
  • Meet regularly with staff groups regarding the instructional programs
  • Strive to keep abreast of the latest thinking of curriculum design and program developments and share these with the certificated staff
  • Act as a liaison among school personnel, parents, students, and community regarding school programs
  • Assist the Superintendent, Administration and media with communication and press releases
  • Coordinate the development of building and district budgets as they relate to instruction, curriculum, and District goals with the Superintendent, Building Administrators and Instructional Leaders
  • Collaborate with the Student Services staff, individually and as groups, to improve both the quality and effectiveness of their programs
  • Assist in coordinating the system-wide assessment and testing programs, including state mandated assessments
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the Early Admission Program for students meeting the eligibility requirements for early entrance to Kindergarten and First Grade
  • Provide information to school personnel regarding state and federal laws and regulations and other topics essential for the delivery of services to all students
  • Provide leadership in the development of educational evaluation and accountability procedures, curriculum and staff development, and implementation or modification of instructional and classroom management strategies
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee the district's summer school program
  • Coordinate the district's new teacher mentoring program in conjunction with the district's program coordinator
  • Serve as the hearing officer for expulsion hearings as necessary and requested by superintendent
  • Coordinate with local colleges and universities to assign pre-service teachers
  • Other duties as assigned
