JOB TITLE: Afterschool Lead Instructor / Curriculum Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Child & Youth Services
SUPERVISORโS TITLE: Afterschool District Manager
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None
JOB STATUS: Part-time, Non-Exempt
SCHEDULE: MondayโFriday, 2:00 PM โ 6:00 PM (20 hours/week)
Summary:
Provide afterschool instruction and curriculum support for school-age children in a structured program environment. This role focuses on academic enrichment, including math and reading development, while ensuring a safe, engaging, and supportive setting for children and families.
Key Responsibilities:
ยท Deliver tutoring and homework assistance to participating students
ยท Supervise assigned students and maintain a safe, structured classroom environment
ยท Plan and implement daily educational and recreational activities
ยท Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum that promotes math and reading skills
ยท Collaborate with Program Coordinator and staff to ensure program goals are met
ยท Maintain accurate documentation (attendance, food program, incident reports, etc.)
ยท Communicate effectively with parents and promote program engagement
ยท Ensure cleanliness and organization of program spaces
ยท Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and special events
ยท Support parent involvement through communication, newsletters, and activities
ยท Assist with planning and execution of events such as holiday programs and open houses
ยท Maintain confidentiality of all children, family, and program information
Qualifications & Skills:
ยท Strong math and reading skills
ยท Effective written and verbal communication skills
ยท Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
ยท Strong classroom management and organizational skills
ยท Ability to engage and motivate school-age children
ยท Professional demeanor with children, families, and staff
Physical & Work Requirements:
ยท Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
ยท Ability to sit, kneel, bend, twist, and move at a childโs level
ยท Ability to visually and auditorily supervise children in various environments (classroom, playground, field trips)
ยท Reliable transportation and ability to travel to trainings and meetings
ยท Valid driverโs license and proof of vehicle insurance required
Certifications & Training Requirements:
ยท CPR, First Aid, and Preventing Disease Transmission certification
ยท Completion of pre-employment drug screening
ยท Participation in required staff trainings and professional development

Requirements:
Education/Experience Requirements
High School Diploma required. Minimum of two yearsโ experience working with school-age children in an educational, childcare, or youth services setting. Bachelorโs degree in Elementary Education preferred.
