Position Overview 

This is a skilled position responsible for the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of crushing plant equipment used in the production of aggregate materials. This role plays a critical part in ensuring consistent product quality, meeting production targets, and maintaining safe working conditions.

This is a hands-on, high-visibility position requiring strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. The ideal candidate is a dependable, self-motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced, outdoor environment and takes pride in maintaining equipment and delivering high-quality material output.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) 

  • Operate primary and secondary crushing equipment to produce crushed stone, sand, and gravel according to specifications.
  • Monitor plant operations to ensure proper material flow, gradation, and quality standards.
  • Perform routine inspections of crushers, conveyors, screens, and related equipment to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns.
  • Adjust controls and settings to regulate material size, throughput, and production efficiency.
  • Conduct basic maintenance and repairs, including clearing jams, replacing wear parts, and performing lubrication tasks.
  • Communicate with plant supervisors, loader operators, and maintenance personnel to coordinate production and resolve issues.
  • Maintain accurate production logs, downtime records, and equipment condition reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and MSHA regulations.
  • Perform housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist with plant start-up and shutdown procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Experience 

  • Prior experience operating crushers, screening plants, or similar heavy equipment in an aggregate or mining environment preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Knowledge of aggregate production processes and material specifications.
  • Ability to read and understand operational manuals, safety procedures, and production requirements.
  • Basic computer or tablet skills for reporting and tracking purposes.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements 

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence. 

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions. 

  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

  • Valid Driver’s License is preferred 

Additional Requirements
  • Commitment to workplace safety and active participation in safety initiatives.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and dust.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
