POSITION: Waste Stream Coordinator SEASON: Austral Summer (September - April)LOCATION: Palmer Station, Antarctica SECTOR/DEPT: Six Mile, LLC AntarcticaESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Operate SkyTrak telehandler, Toolcat, ATVs, and zodiacs as requiredDaily use of pallet jack, banding equipment, power tools, hand tools, shovels, and other toolsCollect station waste and recycling to transport to appropriate staging areaPackage all waste properly to meet regulations and/or follow best practicesLoad shipping containers with packaged waste to meet regulations and/or follow best practicesOperate incinerator, glass crusher, and baler as neededPerform fueling duties as necessarySupport other work centers as needed and as time allows (Logistics, FMC, Boathouse, etc.) Attend all required emergency response team trainings Maintain clean and orderly workspaces in processing facility and in outdoor work areasParticipate in all required station support duties such as GASH and House MouseTrack all labor, work orders, and other data accuratelyParticipate in safety meetingsUse the proper PPE for various tasks (correct gloves, respirator, safety glasses, etc.)Regular use of cargo straps, banding, pallet jacks, and power tools.Position requires constant physical activity, including bending, consistently lifting and carrying 50 - 70 lbs, reaching and gripping. Perform ancillary support to station Spill Team, including on-call duties after hours and possible night shift duties. Agrees with and adheres to the Standard Operating Procedures and tasking responsibilities of the Waste department.Able to work in a team unit composed of diverse personalities.Displays self-motivation in physically challenging and atypical work environment; position is comprised of approximately 70% outdoor tasking Able to maintain flexibility and positive attitude in a dynamic, fast-paced work settingPerforms duties in support of Operations Division metrics (as provided by supervisor)Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, effected by this position's work activitiesComplies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentationWorks to achieve ASC goals and contractual commitmentsResponsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplacePerform other duties as requiredReports to Waste Management Specialist REQUIREMENTS:Experience living on remote job siteEquipment operating experienceFamiliarity with power tools and machineryAble to stand for up to 12 hours dailyMust be able to lift the safety regulation maximum and perform functions requiring repetitive motion requiredMust pass physical qualification assessmentAble to deploy to Antarctica for length of contractPossible travel to spill school within the US PREFERRED:Previous USAP Waste Management experiencePrevious deployment to Antarctica EDUCATION: High school education or GED.CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: Valid Driver's License and passport valid for six months after end of contract.EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalentOTHER: US citizenship or permanent residency required.Gana-A'Yoo, Limited (GYL), an Alaska Native Corporation, offers services with ongoing contracts in many facility types, such as, military training facilities, emergency management centers and temporary field sites.
