Adjunct Faculty, Critical Thinking
Department: Humanities
Location: Wellesley Hills/Framingham/Ashland

Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
MassBay Community College is seeking apart-time Humanities faculty member to join the Division of Humanities andSocial Sciences. This position includes teaching Critical Thinking, a generaleducation requirement for all degree seeking students in person on theWellesley, Framingham, and Ashland campuses.
The ideal candidate willjoin a vibrant educational community, and have a desire and ability to serve apopulation of students with various needs and backgrounds. Thecandidate is expected to commit to excellence in teaching and learning,collaboration and professional development. Adjunct faculty are expected to deliver course materials in alearner-centered environment conductive to engaging students in the learningprocess. The faculty member in this position communicates consistently andeffectively with students, faculty and administrators, and responds tocommunications within a 24 hour period of time. The faculty is responsible formanaging this course through timely grading of assignments, providingsubstantial student feedback with assignments, and submission of clinicalevaluations, attendance and grades.
Facultyare responsible for developing educational and evaluation materials consistentwith the philosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College,and, if applicable, accreditation, licensure, and specialty requirements, andfor maintaining current expertise in the discipline.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Teach in-person Critical Thinking courses on Wellesley Hills, Framingham, or Ashland campuses, as assigned;
  • Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course and program requirements and student learning outcomes for Graduation Competencies as appropriate;
  • Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in the discipline and the classroom.

This list is not to be considered all-inclusive. Asupervisor may assign other duties as required to meet the needs and foster themission of the College.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Critical Thinking, Humanities, or related field;
  • Minimum of two years of full-time teaching experience, or equivalent part-time experience, teaching writing;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Demonstrates ability to use information technology effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action;
  • Experience working in a community college or similar environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;
  • Community College teaching experience strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with English language learners, adult learners, and at-opportunity students;
  • Demonstrates ability to design and implement a curriculum that uses culturally responsive and inclusive perspectives;
  • Demonstrates ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies to promote and evaluate student learning;
  • Demonstrates interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Salary Range: $1,512 - $1,715 per DCE Credit
