Job description

AMDA College of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Hollywood, is one of the foremost post-secondary performing arts colleges in the country. AMDA offers various pathways for students to receive unparalleled performing arts education taught by world-class industry professionals, including Professional Conservatory Certificates as well as undergraduate and graduate degrees (Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Associate of Occupational Studies, Master of Fine Arts and Master of Arts).
 
AMDA is seeking qualified part-time/adjunct instructors to teach philosophy, critical thinking, and/or applied logic courses. The instructor is responsible for providing highly effective instruction through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear documentation of student progress, and support of the academic success for all students.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines, and class schedules;
  • Creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
  • Evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and assessing student work;
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
  • Maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
  • Fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/adjunct faculty member;
  • Maintaining accurate academic records
 
Qualifications:
  • Applicants with a terminal degree in philosophy or a related field will be prioritized for review.
  • Applicants with extensive experience in higher education, plus a Master's degree in philosophy or a related field will also be considered.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching philosophy, critical thinking, and/or applied logic courses in a post-secondary setting.
  • Experience with or willingness to explore innovative teaching methodologies in addition to lecture mode.
  • Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional field.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success at in higher education institutions, including effective use of technology.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning.
  • Successful candidates will be able to apply their discipline expertise in a manner/context that is relevant to emerging performing artists.
 
Position Information:
  • The pay range for this position is $45.00/hour - $60.00/hour. For administrative and tasks assigned or approved outside of classroom teaching hours will be paid at a standard hourly rate of $35.
  • This position is subject to a background check upon a conditional offer of employment and a reference check.
  • This is an On-Campus teaching opportunity.
