What is a CPG company?

A CPG company, or Consumer Packaged Goods company, is a business that manufactures and sells products used daily by consumers that require frequent replacement or replenishment. These products include food, beverages, cleaning products, personal care items, and other household goods. CPG companies focus on creating, marketing, and distributing these goods to retailers and directly to consumers through various channels. Well-known examples include Procter & Gamble, Unilever, and Nestlé. The industry is highly competitive and driven by consumer trends, brand loyalty, and innovation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a CPG company?

To thrive in a CPG company, you need a solid understanding of marketing, supply chain management, and sales, often backed by a relevant degree in business, marketing, or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as ERP systems, data analytics platforms, and category management software is typically required. Strong communication, adaptability, and analytical thinking distinguish top performers in this fast-moving environment. These skills are vital for driving product success, optimizing operations, and responding effectively to market trends and consumer demands.

What are some common challenges faced when working at a CPG company, and how can new hires effectively navigate them?

One common challenge in a CPG company is adapting to the fast-paced, highly competitive market where consumer preferences and retail trends can shift quickly. New hires often need to manage multiple projects simultaneously while collaborating with cross-functional teams like marketing, sales, and supply chain. Building strong communication skills, being adaptable to change, and staying up-to-date with market trends can help new employees thrive. Seeking mentorship and proactively engaging with team members will also ease the transition into the dynamic environment typical of CPG firms.

Job description

About Mammoth Brands
Mammoth Brands (formerly Harry's Inc.) is the modern CPG company behind brands Harry's, Flamingo, Lume, Mando, and Coterie. We're building a new model-and home-brands, founders, and talent looking to solve unmet needs, improve peoples' lives, and ultimately challenge the status quo. Our mission is to "Create Things People Like More." Simply put: everything we do should be better than what already exists. If it's not, we don't do it. This guides everything we do, from developing the best product experiences, to making Mammoth Brands a great place to work, to exploring innovative ways to give back to our community.
We got our start in 2013 when our co-founders created Harry's. They built the brand differently-online first, prioritizing direct relationships with customers-and in the process learned they'd created something bigger: a playbook and platform that could help other brands grow and scale to their full potential, and a vision to reimagine consumer packaged goods. Today, Mammoth Brands is a growing portfolio of brands and the largest CPG company built in the last 20 years. Even as we grow, we take extra care to maintain the small, scrappy, entrepreneurial culture that helped to get us where we are today: to create a company that people like more, that better serves its customers, employees, and community. As a company, we're also committed to making a positive impact and have donated over $20 million through our network of nonprofit partners to date.
We build brands that move fast and think big - and we hire people who are curious about AI, willing to experiment with it in their day-to-day work, and excited to accelerate what's possible. We prioritize giving our team the tools, training, and space to build real fluency, so you grow alongside the technology and help shape how we use it.
The Global Sourcing team at Mammoth Brands works cross-functionally to manage inventory management, production planning, and product development for innovative and performance-driven products in the men's and women's grooming market.
About the role
As a Manager, Global Supply Chain - Innovation, you'll be embedded within the Global Sourcing team but collaborate heavily with our Upstream Innovation team. You will work with Brand, Growth, Customer Supply Chain and R&D teams to help plan and optimize inventory, forecast, monitor product performance, develop ordering strategy, and oversee on-time/in-full performance. This role is highly visible and a unique opportunity to work on a team that is reinventing the product innovation process at Mammoth Brands all while working on exciting new launches.
What you will accomplish:
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners to develop and obtain high-quality demand, supply, logistics, distribution, and other inputs to create a robust assumption-based inventory plan with significant collaboration from digital teams.
  • Optimize service and inventory levels by SKU at each location of the supply chain network (contract manufacturer, in transit, DCs) in order to support product availability for our fast moving Upstream innovation launches.
  • Autonomously model scenarios and understand impacts of changes to demand, supply, and network assumptions and quickly iterate as product performance develops.
  • Regularly generate and report on key KPIs to Brand and Growth teams while flagging potential roadblocks/considerations.
  • Place purchase orders and regularly interface with external partners to ensure correct lead times, on time production, and product delivery.
  • Ensure items are accurately set-up across multiple digital channels.

This should describe you:
  • BA or equivalent preferably in a related area (supply chain, finance, engineering, economics).
  • Experience working across multiple verticals in a fast-paced CPG environment
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills (advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel necessary) with ability to develop inventory models to support volatile digital product launches (previous experience with SAP is a plus).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex, quickly developing fluid scenarios into clear and actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to thrive on a fast-paced and highly visible team that often interfaces with Director and C-suite level team members.
  • You are a learner - always seeking to improve yourself, your team, and the world around you.
  • You thrive on direct, honest, and supportive communication.
  • You are always thinking about how to help the teammates around you excel with the ability to work in the unknown.
  • Sense of humor -- we take our work seriously and ourselves un-seriously.

Here's who you'll work with
  • Reporting to Senior Manager, Global Supply - Upstream Innovation
  • Working on which team: Global Supply - Soft Products
  • Which teams would they work with cross-functionally: Supply planning, Demand Planning, Sourcing, Inbound/outbound shipping, CSC, Project Management, PD/L2M, Packaging, Brand
  • External partners (contract manufacturers, inbound/outbound carriers, component suppliers)

Benefits and perks
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401k match
  • Equity in Mammoth Brands
  • Flexible time off and working hours
  • L&D stipend
  • 4 weeks sabbatical after 5 years, 6 weeks after 10 years, and 8 weeks after 15 years
  • 20 fully paid weeks off for parents who give birth, or 16 fully paid weeks off for all other paths to parenthood
  • Fun IRL and virtual events including happy hours, team building events, and parties on our rooftop
  • Free products from our family of brands

The Mammoth Brands' working model is in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Our beautiful 70,000 square foot SoHo office is decked out with bagels on Wednesdays and lunch on Thursdays, and fully stocked kitchens with snacks, coffee, and drinks everyday. Can't forget the free products and the opportunity to have some meetings without Zoom!
We can't quantify all of the intangible things we think you'll love about working at Mammoth Brands, like the exciting challenges we tackle, the smart and humble team you'll get to work with, and our supportive and inclusive culture. That said, our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of our total rewards package, which also includes a comprehensive set of benefits and our equity program. The base salary hiring range for this position is $91,600-$115,000, but the final compensation offer will ultimately be based on the candidate's location, skill level and experience.
Mammoth Brands is committed to bringing together individuals from different backgrounds and perspectives. We strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive, feel a sense of belonging, and do great work together.
Mammoth Brands is an Equal Opportunity Employer, providing equal employment and advancement opportunities to all individuals.
