What does a copywriter do?

A copywriter is a professional who creates written content for advertising, marketing, and promotional materials. Their main goal is to craft persuasive and engaging copy that encourages people to take action, such as buying a product, subscribing to a service, or learning more about a brand. Copywriters work on a variety of materials, including advertisements, websites, emails, social media posts, and product descriptions. They often collaborate with designers, marketers, and clients to ensure the messaging aligns with brand objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a copywriter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Copywriter, you need excellent writing, grammar, and editing skills, often supported by a degree in communications, marketing, or English. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, and analytics platforms is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure that copywriters can produce compelling, targeted content that meets client objectives and drives engagement.

What are some common challenges copywriters face when collaborating with designers and marketing teams?

Copywriters often need to balance creativity with strategic messaging while working closely with designers and marketing teams. One common challenge is ensuring that the written content aligns seamlessly with the visual elements and overall brand voice. Effective communication and flexibility are crucial, as feedback from multiple stakeholders may require revisions to meet campaign goals. Building strong relationships and maintaining an open feedback loop can help copywriters overcome these challenges and produce cohesive, impactful content.

Job description

PROJECT MANAGER Relevate Health
WHO WE ARE
At Relevate Health, we believe every HCP communication should be relevant, and we've built a company of exceptional people committed to making that vision a reality. We're healthcare marketing experts who push ourselves every single day to deliver life-changing engagement for the clients and patients who depend on us. Our culture is collaborative, growth-minded, and energized by purpose.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We're growing our Creative team and looking for a sharp, strategic Group Copy Supervisor to join our expanding market access and health system practice. This role puts you at the intersection of science, strategy, and storytelling: leading copy across a portfolio of high-profile pharmaceutical accounts and driving creative that helps payers, health systems, and providers make informed decisions about today's most important therapies.
You'll own copy from brief through final delivery. You'll be the creative voice across PIE presentations, value proposition decks, patient and payer education materials, workshop decks, and more. You'll mentor and lead junior copywriters, collaborate daily with art, strategy, account, and medical teams, and show up with confidence and rationale in both internal and client-facing settings.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Lead and own copy development end-to-end across market access and health system materials, including PIE presentations, value proposition decks, leave-behinds, implementation guides, playbooks, case studies, objection handlers, training materials, infographics, and provider/patient/payer education materials
  • Manage, mentor, and supervise Junior Copywriters, Copywriters, and Senior Copywriters across day-to-day work and longer-term development
  • Collaborate closely with art, strategy, account, PM, and medical teams to ensure creative is on brief, on brand, and on time
  • Help develop and review project and creative briefs
  • Originate fresh, innovative concepts and transform them into effective copy across digital and print platforms, including websites, email, social media, and interactive digital tactics
  • Communicate complex medical and market access topics in a clean, concise, and medically accurate manner
  • Present work with confidence and thoughtful rationale. Clearly articulate copy decisions to internal teams and clients
  • Ensure editorial accuracy throughout the MLR process, including annotations and references
  • Participate in RFPs, pitches, and concept development
  • Connect with target audiences by applying insights from behavioral research, journey maps, and data
  • Proactively identify risks related to timing, process, or creative quality and come with a mitigation plan

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Must-Haves:
  • Strong copywriting background with direct experience in market access and/or health system marketing at a market access agency
  • Ability to own a project from brief to final delivery and effectively direct others across large or multiple simultaneous projects
  • Demonstrated ability to consume, analyze, and translate complex medical and market access literature into compelling copy
  • Expertise in editorial accuracy, including MLR-compliant annotations and references
  • Conceptual thinking that pushes work beyond the expected
  • Confident, polished client presence. You know how to read the room and adjust in real time
  • Excellent listener who builds strong, trusted relationships across internal and client teams
  • Strong organizational and self-management skills with a clear sense of urgency
  • Ability to think quickly and adapt well in fast-paced, high-pressure situations
  • Self-aware. You know your strengths, own your gaps, and seek input when needed

Big Pluses:
  • Experience with Amgen, Sanofi, Regeneron, or similar large pharma accounts
  • Familiarity with ProofHQ or similar review platforms
  • Experience with LLM platforms integrated into a creative workflow
  • Comfort with health system strategy and payer/access landscape nuances

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required, ideally in English, Journalism, or a related field
  • 4-7 years of copywriting experience
  • Minimum 3 years in a fast-paced agency environment
  • Minimum 3 years writing for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries
