Job description

Creative Director, Copy / Creative Strategist (Pharma)

LOCATION

Remote, with access to our Norwalk, CT office for those nearby.

LEVEL

Senior-level (Temp to perm possible)

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

10+

S50 is looking for a CD, Copy / Creative Strategist (Pharma) with deep pharma experience and the ability to turn complex science into clear, compelling creative. This is a hands-on role for someone who can think at the campaign level and sharpen at the sentence level, equally comfortable generating big ideas and shaping them into polished, channel-ready work. We’re looking for someone who understands pharma has rules, but never uses them as an excuse for boring work.

S50 runs lean by design. That means everyone, including this role, is in the work all the time, not managing it from a distance.

Responsibilities
  • Own copywriting from first brief through final execution.
  • Collaborate across teams to concept ambitious (and medically responsible) work.
  • Bring a strong point of view and the flexibility to let the best idea win.
  • Ground the work in an understanding of a client’s audience, goals, and competition.
  • Present work with clarity and conviction and the strategic rationale to back it up.
  • Navigate claims, references, annotations, fair balance, FDA guidance, and MLR review.
  • Raise the bar through clear direction, honest feedback, and high standards.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and agency-building initiatives.
Requirements
  • Low ego about the process, high standards for the output. We don’t do brilliant jerks.
  • 8–10+ years of pharma or medical marketing experience, including creative leadership.
  • A portfolio that shows range, strategic clarity, channel fluency, and craft.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmaceutical regulatory requirements: claims substantiation, reference development, annotations, FDA guidance, and MLR review.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to speak persuasively about the work.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, multiple workstreams, and tight timelines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • A proactive approach to AI and emerging creative tools, and the instinct to bring that into how the team works.
