Description
The role of the Data Architect/Data Services Specialistis to expand the company's use of data as a strategic enabler of corporate goals and objectives. The Data Architect/Data Services Specialist will achieve this by strategically designing, developing, and implementing data models for enterprise-level and customer-facing applications and systems. These models shall be architected at the conceptual, logical, business area, and application layers. This individual will act as the primary advocate of data modeling methodologies and data processing best practices focused on the company's breadth of clinical, customer and product-related data.
 
The role of Data Architect/Data Services Specialist will be primarily responsible for developing & maintaining ETL Jobs, extracting and replicating company data and loading it into a data warehousing environment, primarily using the SAP Data Services platform.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver long-term strategic goals for clinical and corporate data architecture and standards in conjunction with Clinical Affairs, Business Units, Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, External Customers and other key stakeholders.
  • Establish an overall clinical data infrastructure roadmap and implementation plan, while collaborating with key stakeholders
  • Gather and review business requirements and processes, conduct in-person interviews or workshops, profile source system(s) data, documentation, analysis, and design of proposed systems. This specific role focuses on data decomposition, building conceptual models, developing an enterprise clinical data taxonomy, and developing a logical clinical data model at the enterprise level.
  • Translate Business Requirements Documents (BRDs) and/or User Stories into viable conceptual and subsequently, logical data models and design artifacts in conformance with existing standards and conventions.
  • Develop mapping documents that demonstrate data lineage and relationships.
  •  Establish processes for governing the identification, collection, and use of corporate and clinical metadata; take steps to assure metadata accuracy and validity. 
  • Establish methods and procedures for tracking data quality, completeness, redundancy, and improvement.
  • Conduct clinical data capacity planning, life cycle, duration, usage requirements, feasibility studies, and other tasks.
  • Create strategies and plans for clinical data security, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and archiving.
  • Performs visualization design; completes challenging visualization projects independently; utilizes good sensibility in visual storytelling.
  • Partners with other clinical and BU stakeholders to develop reports that provide meaningful clinical and product data and information.
  • Liaise with vendors and service providers to select the products or services that best meet company goals in collaboration
  • Assess and determine governance, stewardship, and frameworks for managing clinical data across the organization in collaboration with the Director of Application Development & Integration.
  • Develop and promote data management methodologies and standards, that are within regulatory compliance.
  • Lead the mapping of clinical data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics, with the goal of ensuring data quality.
  • Build out the data architecture and models in collaboration with the company's data.
  • Address clinical data-related problems regarding systems integration, compatibility, and multiple-platform integration.
  • Develop and implement key components as needed to create testing criteria in order to guarantee the fidelity and performance of the data architecture.
  • Document the data architecture and environment in order to maintain a current and accurate view of the larger data picture.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for data reuse, migration, or retirement.
  • Knowing and applying Exactech's Quality Management System and any appropriate federal and international standards.
  • Assist and support other employees, teams, and sales personnel as necessary.  

Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution required. 
 Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in hands-on technical leadership, project management, process development and resource management.
  • 7+ years' work experience as a data or information architect.
  • 7+ years' work experience as an ETL developer. (SAP Data Services would be beneficial)
  • 7 years' experience working with modeling tools (e.g., one or more of the following: SAP Power Designer, ER/Win, ER/Studio or other similar tools).
  • 7 years of relevant data analysis; experience with database query and analysis languages (e.g., SQL, R, SAS, Python) and data visualization tools (e.g., SAP Business Objects, Tableau, etc.).
  • 3-5 years' experience working with clinical data in a medical device industry setting is ideal.
  • Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Ability to interpret complex statistical data.

  • Hands-on experience with data architecting, data mining, large-scale data modeling, and business requirements gathering/analysis.
  • Direct experience in implementing data management processes, procedures, and decision support.
  • Strong understanding of relational data structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Strong familiarity with metadata management and associated processes.
  • Hands-on knowledge of enterprise repository tools, data modeling tools, data mapping tools, and data profiling tools.
  • Demonstrated expertise with repository creation, and data and information system life cycle methodologies.
  • Experience with business requirements and process analysis, entity relationship planning, database design, reporting structures, and so on.
  • Ability to manage data and metadata migration.
  • Excellent client/user interactions skills to determine requirements.
  • Ability to effectively build and maintain relationships 
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to define, develop, and analyze performance measures and metrics.
  • Solid experience utilizing and implementing relational and non-relational data storage models.
  • Expert knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
    Desired:
  • Understanding of Web services (SOAP, XML, UDDI, WSDL) and open APls.
  • Broad understanding of various cloud development technologies and trends.
  • Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Clinical Data Expertise: Advanced Subject Matter Expert and analytic resource in a number of clinical areas applying knowledge of definitions and identifying best sources of data.
  • Experience developing and supporting mission critical applications optimized to run in the cloud or virtualized environments.
  • Strong experience with SDLC, Agile methodologies, Microservices, API, EDI, and public and private cloud technologies.
  • Deep knowledge of system architecture, technical design, system and software development technology, scalability, availability and performance considerations.
  • Has knowledge of emerging trends and developments in PaaS, Saas, iOS/Android mobile app API, cloud, Al, Machine Learning and other digital technologies.
  • Strong experience with common and reliable Web and Mobile application development.
  • Object oriented programming experience (e.g., using Java, J2EE, EJB, .NET, WebSphere, etc.).
  • Scripting (R, Python)
