Job Details:Job Description: 

The Facilities Mechanical and Controls Engineer based in Santa Clara, California, will serve as the Technical Subject Matter Expert, providing leadership and expertise to ensure the reliability, performance, and safety of all mechanical, HVAC, and control systems within critical environments, laboratories, and other facilities. This individual will leverage their extensive field experience to mentor and collaborate with other engineers, serve as the system owner, and manage the health and performance of equipment by overseeing the work of Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) partners and external vendors. While this role transitions away from hands-on equipment work, the candidate will utilize their technical expertise to direct, oversee, and ensure adherence to high standards in equipment operation and maintenance.

As a Facilities Mechanical and Controls Engineer, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • System Availability and Reliability: Ensure the availability, reliability, and maintenance of mechanical and HVAC systems (e.g., oil-free air systems, HVAC systems, chilled water plants, boilers, environmental abatement systems, and environmental compliance exhaust) critical to supporting data centers, labs, and facility operations.
  • Safety and Environmental Standards: Support daily efforts to achieve safety, reliability, and environmental compliance objectives for all facilities' mechanical systems.
  • System Design and Analysis: Design and analyze mechanical systems and equipment, troubleshoot systemic issues, and provide evaluation, recommendations, and solutions to resolve complex problems.
  • Project Development: Develop engineering scopes of work for mechanical projects, conduct feasibility studies, and review and evaluate the design of mechanical systems.

Control Systems Expertise

  • Oversee industrial instrumentation and automation systems used for maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and programming of analytical instrumentation.
  • Design and develop new control systems, and test, maintain, and modify existing systems.
  • Compliance and Quality Standards: Understand and ensure all work adheres to relevant health and safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause failure analysis to address equipment issues and manage long-term improvement initiatives.

Collaboration and Partnership

  • Act as a partner to business units, providing engineering solutions for equipment and systems to meet operational goals.
  • Work closely with operations teams and IFM service providers to ensure mechanical systems are maintained and operated within specified limits
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a systems roadmap and asset replacement strategy to ensure reliability, redundancy, and capacity for facility expansions, renovations, and growth initiatives.
  • Mentorship and Leadership: Guide and mentor other engineers, sharing expertise and fostering a culture of collaboration, while serving as the team lead for mechanical and controls engineering initiatives.

Note: This role requires regular onsite presence to fulfill essential job responsibilities. Ensures availability, reliability, and maintenance of mechanical and HVAC systems (e.g., oil free air systems, HVAC systems, chilled water plant, boilers, environmental abatement systems, and environmental compliance exhaust) to support manufacturing, clean room, and research and development activities. Supports daily tactical efforts in safety, reliability, and environmental objectives of facilities mechanical systems. Designs and analyzes mechanical systems, equipment, and packaging and troubleshoots mechanical systems systematic issues and provides evaluation, recommendations, and solutions to resolve problems.

Qualifications:

You must possess the minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. This position is not eligible for Intel's immigration sponsorship.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in large-scale manufacturing, commercial, or mechanical engineering facilities
  • 5+ years of field experience with mechanical systems - such as HVAC, fans, boilers, chillers, pumps, piping, valves, etc. and control systems (instrumentation, PLCs, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience transitioning from hands-on roles to system ownership and oversight of vendor-driven maintenance and operations
  • Proven track record of mentoring and leading technical teams within critical environments or large-scale facilities
  • Proven ability to identify, analyze, and resolve immediate and systemic issues with technical equipment
  • Experience utilizing troubleshooting techniques and interpreting PandIDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams)

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in the US: $89,010.00-146,440.00 USDThe range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Work Model for this Role
