Aiming to bring together the cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As a Display Mechanical Engineer, you will take a critical role in design and development of advanced display modules for virtual reality AI devices and exciting new product categories. You will become part of a world-class display engineering team building products and developing technologies from concepts, to prototyping and to mass-production consumer electronics. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and proactive problem solving in domains other than mechanical engineering. We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer or product designer with the expertise of mechanical engineering fundamentals, CAD fluency, system architecting and module integration, rapid prototyping skills, manufacturing process knowledge/DFM, and experience designing consumer electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design engineering for advanced display modules, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to deliver optimal VR and AI device displays.
  • Drive display prototyping in close collaboration with cross-functional teams, enabling early and faster performance evaluation, risk identification, and supporting accelerated design iterations to inform product decisions.
  • Partner with display suppliers to custom design, build, and validate display at both module and system levels.
  • Drive development and innovations in the broad field of display and optical form factor improvement, cost reduction, thermal design and sustainability.
  • Travel up to 15% internationally.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience in display modules, or similar product design experiences in the consumer electronics field.
  • Strong mechanical or product design expertise with knowledge in DFM, manufacturing and product integration.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals: properties of materials, solid mechanics, statics, Newtonian physics, and heat transfer.
  • Experience of rapid prototyping, system integration and product demos for driving product or program level directions.
  • Experience with manufacturing techniques such as 3d printing, injection-molding, machining, die-cutting, forging, etc. and materials such as plastics, metals, glass, etc.
  • Experience of planning and performing DOE, statistical data analysis, yield improvement, root cause investigation, FACA.
  • Track-record of ownership in developing and delivering consumer products.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of mechanical design experience in display module, or similar product design experiences in the consumer electronics field.
  • System level product design, architecting and module integration, rapid prototyping and live demo experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability in electro-mechanical module design and prototyping for high-volume consumer products.
  • Experience with simulation and analysis methods (FEA, CFD, etc.) for structural, thermal, tolerance, mechanical test and measurement data analysis.
  • Understanding of system and module level trade-offs with mechanical, optical, and electrical performance.
  • Experience in managing display module engineering projects and/or consumer electronics NPI/NTI projects
  • Experience working with display vendors, JDM, ODMs and CMs.
  • In-depth understanding of LCD and OLED display technologies.
