Job description

Overview
THE ROLE:
The Associate Packaging Engineer will work onsite at our state of art Innovation and Manufacturing facility here in Winston-Salem, NC. Will work in a multi-functional environment to support Packaging Engineering projects by applying Packaging Engineering principals to develop and commercialize new packaging components or revise existing packaging components. The Associate Packaging Engineer will create packaging specifications, conduct package tests, conduct pilot trials, develop packaging test protocols and packaging test reports. The person selected for this role will have an understanding of packaging components and materials, packaging design, packaging testing and GMP. This person will be responsible for completing packaging tasks and activities supporting quality improvement, new product launches, product reformulations, regional product rollouts (line extensions), packaging cost reductions, packaging supplier qualifications, packaging specification changes and operational efficiencies.
HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:
• Attend and participate in multi-functional team meetings.
• Perform packaging tasks in Agile and Oracle systems.
• Develop new or revise existing packaging specifications.
• Develop and implement protocols for packaging tests and packaging line trials. Participate in Packaging Line Trials and Packaging testing.
• Create and publish packaging test reports including data summaries, observations, conclusions and recommendations.
• Participate in multi-functional teams to develop new packaging for NPD, STM or Turnkey initiatives and to modify existing packaging for Regional product rollouts, manufacturing transfers, and packaging supplier qualifications.
• Support Quality by analyzing packaging materials and components for compliance with specifications and requirements
• Support Sourcing new Packaging supplier qualification initiatives by performing technical assessments of new suppliers' ability align with Herbalife specifications and requirements.
• Travel to contract manufacturer locations, contract test laboratories, and Herbalife distribution centers as required to perform packaging duties.
• Provide monthly project update reports
• Interact multi-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, R&D, Sourcing, Quality, and Logistics regarding Packaging Engineering activities.

Job Qualifications
SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
Skills:
• Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills
• Ability to solve practical problems and prioritize workload for effective implementation under general supervision
• Experience with Microsoft Windows and Office software - Outlook, MS Word, Excel and Adobe
• Understanding of packaging design and engineering concepts
• Ability to read, comprehend and communicate Packaging drawings and technical information in English
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced multi-functional environment and be a great teammate with sensitivity to cultural diversity
Experience:
• 1 - 3 years' experience in Packaging development with food or nutritional products
• 1 - 3 years' experience working in a GMP environment.
Education:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent working towards an Associate's Degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Technology or similar discipline
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience preferably in Nutraceutical, Pharmaceutical, Food, or CPG industries
• Experience with Cape Pack or Tops palletization software
• Preferred Associate's Degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Technology or similar discipline or proven equivalent technical proficiency.
