Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY

Silvus is seeking a Senior Electronics Design Engineer who will report to the Team Lead, Electronics Design on the Hardware Engineering team. The successful individual in this role will participate in the development of Silvus' MANET radios and other advanced R&D projects with an emphasis on Electronics Hardware/PCBA design.

This position is based at Silvus Technologies' headquarters in the heart of vibrantย West Los Angeles, CA, and is on a hybrid schedule; a minimum of 3 days onsite per week is expected. On-site days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.ย 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Component selection, schematic capture and PCB design of electrical systems based on an FPGA SoC with associated memory devices, transceivers, communication peripherals, and power management circuitry.
  • Design high fidelity mixed signal audio circuitry with excellent noise immunity.
  • Follow good design practices to achieve successful mixed signal PCB design.
  • Define PCB stack up, materials, and design rules to meet performance requirements and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Perform hardware bring-up, test, and root cause analysis on the bench, using common lab equipment.
  • Work with PCB Designers, Software, FPGA, and RF teams for system-level implementation.
  • Ensure designs do not produce EMI and are well isolated in high EMI environments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Minimum six (6) years of experience in mixed signal circuit design involving audio and SoCs.
  • Demonstrated expertise with complex mixed signal PCB design and HDI routing.
  • Experienced with audio codecs and audio power amplifiers.
  • Experience implementing digital communication peripherals at a hardware level, such as USB 3.0, 10Gb Ethernet, I2C, and RS232.
  • Experience designing power supply trees to achieve high efficiency and low noise implementations.
  • Strong familiarity with test equipment such as DMM, bench top supply, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen, or U.S. Permanent Resident) due to clients under U.S. federal contracts.
  • All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Competency with simulation tools for high speed digital design and power supply design.
  • Proven experience with Xilinx FPGAs, SoCs and the Vivado IDE.
  • Experience with video codecs.
  • Experience with Altium Designer.
  • Knowledge of compliance standards such as FCC, CE Mark and MIL-STD-461.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, and/or C.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Problem-solving, data analysis, deductive reasoning, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Office environment.
  • Occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens while performing tests or demonstrations in the field.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following:
    • Lift equipment up to 20 lbs. for the set-up of demonstrations and testing.
    • Perform bending and reaching movements to place items on lower and higher shelves.
    • Kneeling or squatting to access lower shelves.
    • Walking/Moving in the labs.
