What is a contract digital product manager?

A Contract Digital Product Manager is a professional hired on a temporary or project-specific basis to oversee the development and management of digital products, such as websites, apps, or software platforms. Unlike full-time employees, they work under a contractual agreement, often for a set duration or until project completion. Their responsibilities include defining product vision, collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing product roadmaps, and ensuring successful product delivery. Contract roles offer flexibility for both employers and managers, allowing for specialized expertise to be brought in as needed.

What are some common challenges faced by contract digital product managers, and how can they effectively integrate with existing teams?

As a Contract Digital Product Manager, one common challenge is quickly understanding the company's product landscape and aligning with the existing team's workflows and culture. Since contract roles are often project-based and time-limited, it's important to establish clear communication channels and build trust rapidly with stakeholders, designers, and engineers. Successful contract managers usually prioritize onboarding efficiently, clarify expectations early, and leverage their external perspective to suggest improvements. Proactively seeking feedback and staying adaptable can help ensure smooth integration and project success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract digital product manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Digital Product Manager, you need expertise in product lifecycle management, user experience design, and agile methodologies, typically supported by a relevant degree and experience in digital product development. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, analytics platforms, and product management certifications such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) are commonly expected. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving abilities help you align teams and drive product success. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering high-impact digital products on time and within budget in a fast-paced, contract-based environment.

Job description

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and its finance & leasing solutions for the future? If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

The Global Headquarters for Volvo Financial Services is seeking a Digital Product Manager for the Product and Contract Digital Delivery Area of VFS Digital and IT, with a specific focus on Payments and Parts and Services Financing (PSF) capabilities across our global digital landscape.

As Digital Product Manager, you own the digital capabilities supporting Payments and Parts & Services Financing (PSF) across the Volvo Financial Services ecosystem. Working closely with Business Product Owners, you translate business strategy into scalable digital capabilities, ensuring enterprise-wide consistency, technical sustainability and continuous product evolution.

Your scope spans capabilities supporting digital payments, payment orchestration, receivables management, settlement and reconciliation, merchant services, Parts & Services Financing and financial transaction management.

You are able to balance end-user, customer and business needs to shape digital capabilities that deliver measurable business outcomes. You collaborate with internal and external parts of the organization, both in different business functions and the wider VFS D&IT community.

What you will do
As the Digital Product Manager, you will be key in aligning with the business strategy and evolving the product including vision, strategy, goals, roadmap, and budget through the lifetime of the digital initiative.

These will be some selected responsibilities:

  • Define and execute the digital product strategy, roadmap, priorities and investment plan, balancing business value, technical sustainability, regulatory requirements and delivery capacity.
  • Own the lifecycle of digital capabilities supporting Payments and Parts & Services Financing, ensuring continuous evolution, scalability, resilience, security, regulatory compliance, long-term maintainability and standardization through reusable capabilities while minimizing market-specific customization.
  • Drive architectural direction and platform alignment, ensuring reusable capabilities, enterprise standards and seamless end-to-end business flows.
  • Lead alignment across Business Product Owners, Digital & IT, Enterprise Architecture, Engineering, markets and strategic partners to ensure shared priorities and successful execution.
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with Group Finance, Treasury, Accounting, Markets and strategic payment partners to deliver scalable, compliant and standardized digital capabilities.
  • Continuously evolve digital capabilities through analytics, end-user feedback, market trends and emerging technologies.
  • Ensure effective governance, planning and transparency across the product portfolio while supporting VFS planning and investment processes.

Your future team

You will report directly to the VP, Digital Delivery Area Product and Contract. Digital and IT is the engine of the VFS business, and we continue our strategic journey to further improve performance and to deliver the best customer experience in the industry. In this exciting environment, we are focused on Digital Innovation to meet the demands of our customers in an increasingly digitalized world.

In many of our markers, VFS has won the Great Place to Work To Work award, where Great Work is done.  By interacting with each other as an on-site business, we build relationships, which allow us to work together more efficiently and form stronger bonds with our colleagues and customers.  The preferred location can be Gothenburg, (Sweden).

Who are you?
Do you dream big? We do too, and we are excited to grow together. In this role, we believe it is the right mindset that will make a difference at VFS. If you want to help create a highly engaged team to work on the latest technology and agile ways of working, driving the digital footprint for VFS, then we would welcome you to apply for this role.

Qualifications likely required to be successful in this role include:

  • Proven experience defining, delivering and evolving enterprise digital products throughout their lifecycle within complex global environments.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives across large global enterprises with multiple business units, vendors and delivery organizations.
  • Strong ability to translate business strategy into scalable digital capabilities supported by sound enterprise architecture and solution design.
  • Good understanding of Payments, Parts & Services Financing and related financial processes.
  • Experience supporting enterprise payment platforms, payment orchestration, financial transaction processing or embedded finance capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, DevOps, and ITIL practices.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and align Business, Digital & IT, vendors and strategic partners.
