What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Developer Advocate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Developer Advocate, you need solid software development experience, deep understanding of APIs or platforms, and strong communication abilities, often supported by a technical degree or relevant certifications. Familiarity with developer tools, cloud platforms, content creation systems, and collaboration tools like GitHub is typically required. Outstanding soft skills include public speaking, community engagement, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts for varied audiences. These skills are crucial for effectively representing a company to developer communities, fostering adoption, and building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

How does a Contract Developer Advocate typically balance independent work with collaboration across teams?

As a Contract Developer Advocate, you'll often work independently to create technical content, demos, or presentations, but strong collaboration is essential for success. You'll regularly partner with engineering, marketing, and product teams to align messaging, gather technical insights, and ensure accuracy in your advocacy efforts. Contractors may join cross-functional meetings, participate in developer events, and communicate feedback from the developer community to internal stakeholders. Balancing autonomy with proactive communication is key to making a meaningful impact and fostering positive relationships within the organization.

What does a Contract Developer Advocate do?

A Contract Developer Advocate is a technology professional hired on a contract basis to promote a company's products or platforms to the developer community. Their main responsibilities include creating technical content, engaging with developers through talks and social media, gathering feedback, and helping improve developer experiences. Unlike full-time advocates, contract positions are typically project-based or temporary, allowing companies to leverage their expertise for specific campaigns or needs. They play a key role in bridging the gap between developers and product teams, ensuring that developers have the resources and support they need.

Job description

About Us:
At apexanalytix, we're lifelong innovators! Since the date of our founding nearly four decades ago we've been consistently growing, profitable, and delivering the best procure-to-pay solutions to the world. We're the perfect balance of established company and start-up. You will find a unique home here.
And you'll recognize the names of our clients. Most of them are on The Global 2000. They trust us to give them the latest in controls, audit and analytics software every day. Industry analysts consistently rank us as a top supplier management solution, and you'll be helping build that reputation.

As the Developer Advcoate for our developer products, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how Qubiton connects with the technical community building the future of supplier intelligence. You are the champion for the developer audience - driving strategy to engage, educate, and empower developers to build with Qubiton's AI- and quantum-enabled supplier data API.
You will bridge the gap between technical innovation and market adoption, collaborating deeply with product, and the Developer Advocate to translate complex API capabilities into compelling narratives. Your work directly influences the growth of the Qubiton developer ecosystem and the enterprise pipeline it generates. While the Developer Advocate builds community credibility in the field, you build the programs, assets, and measurement systems that scale that credibility into revenue. This is a peer partnership: the Developer Advocate brings the voice; you build the amplifier.
Core Responsibilities
GTM Strategy & Launch Planning
  • Design and lead comprehensive go-to-market strategies tailored to the developer persona, ensuring alignment with Qubiton's broader business objectives and apexanalytix's enterprise GTM motion
  • Drive campaign planning and execution across developer awareness, activation, and upsell motions - from ICP definition and positioning to launch sequencing and post-launch measurement
  • Coordinate launch programs for new API capabilities, SDK releases, and integration milestones, partnering with Product and the Developer Advocate to deliver a consistent narrative across every channel

Content Strategy & Editorial Leadership
  • Act as editor-in-chief for Qubiton developer communications - coordinating editorial themes, curating content from cross-functional contributors, and maintaining a consistent and authoritative technical voice
  • Develop and oversee creation of technical blog posts, integration guides, tutorials, and case studies that grow awareness, engagement, and adoption
  • Own the developer influencer program, managing relationship development, deliverable accountability, and contract execution to ensure consistent, on-brand representation across all third-party channels
  • Manage the monthly developer content strategy end-to-end: editorial calendar, copy, deployment, and performance reporting

Community, Events & Ecosystem Marketing
  • Leverage online forums, webinars, hackathons, and meetups to build a vibrant and engaged developer community, fostering two-way conversation and authentic advocacy
  • Lead developer event strategy and execution across conferences and tradeshows - managing sponsorship contracts, booth presence and logistics, speaking opportunities, pre/post-event campaigns, and lead capture to maximize pipeline impact at every event.
  • Own and manage the @QubitonHQ social channels - including content calendar, post scheduling, community engagement, and performance reporting - maintaining a technical yet approachable brand voice across social channels like: LinkedIn, X, and YouTube.

Required Experience & Skills
  • 5+ years marketing API-first or developer tools products; proven track record of understanding developer communities and marketing to them with authenticity
  • Has built and run product launch plans and GTM messaging, channel strategy, asset production, and post-launch measurement, in a cross-functional organization
  • Work experience in the technology sector with a strong understanding of technical audiences; can read an API reference and write a technically accurate brief without being an engineer
  • Experience creating compelling technical content - blog posts, integration guides, tutorials, and running integrated digital campaigns that simplify complex concepts for developers
  • Comfortable with enterprise buying cycles; capable of producing content that helps developers sell internally to Finance or Procurement leadership

Key Attributes
  • Developer-First Instinct - Champions the developer audience internally - leads with genuine usefulness, not product promotion, knowing that trust is earned through helpful content
  • Cross-Functional Drive - Demonstrated experience working in complex organizations, successfully collaborating with product, research, analytics, digital marketing, and sales to move projects forward
  • Measurement Discipline- Distinguishes leading indicators (activation, engagement) from lagging ones (pipeline, revenue) and builds reporting that drives decisions, not just dashboards
  • Autonomous Output - Produces high-quality deliverables with strong project management skills - manages multiple workstreams simultaneously in a fast-paced environment without waiting for perfect information
  • Business Translator - Can connect a working API integration to a dollar figure - essential for producing content that helps developers make the internal case to budget holders
