The Aerospace Corporation is looking for a Contract Billing Manager to lead our Civil System Group (CSG) Contracts Billing department.
This leadership role offers the chance to manage a department that supports over $200 million in annual federal, state, non-profit, and commercial billings. You'll lead an experienced team and have the opportunity to drive process improvements, implement best practices, and shape the future of our billing operations. This position is based at our El Segundo, California campus on a hybrid schedule: four days per week on-site, with one day of remote work. On-site presence is essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams, leading your department, and supporting audit and customer engagement activities.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead, develop, and manage a team of four billing professionals, managing performance, providing mentorship, and fostering a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement
  • Design, implement, and maintain internal controls and billing processes to ensure compliance with government contracting regulations, accounting standards, and corporate objectives
  • Develop and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance efficiency and accuracy across $200M+ in annual billings
  • Collaborate with senior management, accounting teams, contract administrators, and external customers to develop strategic billing solutions that meet complex invoicing requirements
  • Oversee the department's month-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Provide strategic guidance on invoicing standards, documentation requirements, and compliance across multiple contract types (CPFF, FFP, T&M)
  • Monitor collections activities and maintain strong customer relationships to ensure timely payment

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • 8+ years of experience in contract billing, reporting, or revenue accounting with increasing responsibility
  • Proven experience managing and developing teams, including performance management and operational oversight
  • Experience preparing invoices for different contract types (e.g., cost-reimbursable/CPFF, firm fixed-price/FFP, time and materials/T&M)
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills with a customer-service orientation
  • Experience collecting on past due accounts
  • Experience supporting month-end and/or year-end closes
  • Experience working with and responding to auditor requests
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft) and MS Excel

Candidates with one or more of these qualifications will be particularly competitive:
  • CPA certification or MBA degree
  • Deep knowledge of government contracting regulations (FAR, DFAR) and cost accounting standards (CAS-414, Incurred Cost Claims)
  • Advanced SAP S/4 experience with contract billing modules
  • Strong analytical skills with experience building dashboards and leveraging data to drive process improvements
