Assembly Technician in Indianapolis – 1st Shift

Job Description

Seeking an experienced Assembly Technician to build custom mechanical and electrical equipment. This is a hands-on role in a small, clean job shop where you will read blueprints, assemble components, use hand and power tools, and assist with basic fabrication work.

This contract-to-hire opportunity offers a stable daytime schedule, consistent overtime potential, and the chance to expand your technical skills within a growing operation.

Schedule + Pay:

  • 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Monday-Thursday)
  • Overtime: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (Friday)- this is required depending on department
  • Starting pay: $22-$23/hr depending on experience

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to assemble mechanical and electrical components accurately.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to build and assemble products according to specifications.
  • Utilize a computer to track and update production orders and workflow status.
  • Measure and mark steel using a tape measure to prepare materials for machine operations.
  • Review and follow production documents to ensure correct assembly processes and quality standards.
  • Assist the fabrication department by operating drill presses, saws, and other shop equipment as needed.
  • Perform mechanical assembly, including fitting, fastening, and aligning components.
  • Occasionally run electrical wire and perform basic electrical assembly for the final product.
  • Support grinding and other fabrication-related tasks when required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, following shop safety and housekeeping standards.

Essential Skills

  • Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and production documents.
  • Experience with mechanical and electrical assembly in a manufacturing or job shop environment.
  • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to accurately measure and mark materials using a tape measure.
  • Comfort working with fabrication processes such as drilling, sawing, and grinding.
  • Basic understanding of electrical wiring and electrical assembly tasks.
  • Ability to use a computer to track and update production orders.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
