Job description

We are seeking a hands-on, organized, and driven Assembly Operations Lead to oversee the daily operations of our assembly department. This individual will lead a team of assembly technicians, manage production schedules, improve manufacturing processes, and ensure customer orders are completed safely, efficiently, and on time. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who enjoys solving problems, developing people, and continuously improving operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain daily and weekly production schedules.
  • Prioritize work based on customer demand, inventory availability, and shipping deadlines.
  • Coordinate material availability with Purchasing and Inventory.
  • Monitor work-in-process and adjust schedules as priorities change.
  • Identify capacity constraints and communicate risks early.

Team Leadership

  • Direct and supervise assembly technicians.
  • Assign workstations and daily responsibilities.
  • Train new employees on assembly procedures and work instructions.
  • Monitor employee performance and productivity.
  • Foster a safe, organized, and accountable work environment.
  • Conduct daily production meetings as needed.

Process Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop standardized assembly procedures and work instructions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and throughput.
  • Participate in new assembly process development.
  • Maintain production documentation.

Inventory & Materials

  • Verify availability of customer-supplied components.
  • Coordinate shortages with Purchasing.
  • Monitor consumables and assembly supplies.
  • Assist with inventory accuracy and cycle counts.
  • Ensure proper material identification and traceability.

Safety

  • Enforce company safety policies.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE.
  • Report and investigate safety incidents.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Coordinate with:

  • Participate in production planning meetings
  • Communicate production status and potential delays

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, assembly, or production environment.
  • 2+ years of supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience scheduling production.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing workflow and production planning.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering documentation.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Ability to identify problems, determine root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and work in a hands-on manufacturing environment when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in precision assembly, electromechanical assembly, or industrial manufacturing.
  • Experience with customer-supplied materials or contract manufacturing.
