Ghost RX is hiring a Board-Certified Family Practice Physician for a 52-week locum tenens assignment at the Tyler VA Outpatient Clinic in Tyler, Texas - part of the VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS), the second-busiest VA system in the nation, alongside the Dallas VA Medical Center, Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center, and clinics in Bonham, Fort Worth, Garland, and Plano. As a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and trusted federal staffing partner, Ghost RX offers physicians the rare combination of a stable Monday-Friday outpatient schedule, no overnight call, no weekend coverage, and the deep professional satisfaction that comes from caring for those who served.

In this role, you will deliver comprehensive primary care to an adult and geriatric veteran population within the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model. You will manage the full continuum of family medicine - acute illness, chronic disease management (diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, COPD, and mental health disorders), preventive screening, and behavioral health integration - while collaborating with an experienced multidisciplinary VA team using the CPRS/VistA electronic health record. The position emphasizes Health Risk Assessment, evidence-based clinical reminders, and goal setting for prevention and chronic disease - driving better outcomes, improved care coordination, and appropriate resource utilization for the veterans you serve.

Ghost RX provides end-to-end federal credentialing support, comprehensive malpractice coverage with tail, paid federal holidays, paid time off, medical/dental/vision benefits, and a dedicated recruiter who walks you through every step of onboarding. If you are a Family Medicine physician who values mission-driven work, work-life balance, and a long-term assignment with one of the nation's most respected healthcare systems, we want to hear from you. Veterans and military spouses are strongly encouraged to apply (VEVRAA-protected).

Qualification and Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited U.S. medical school or equivalent
  • Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited residency in Family Medicine
  • Board Certification (or active Board Eligibility) in Family Medicine through ABFM or AOBFP
  • Active, unrestricted physician license in any U.S. state or territory (VA accepts cross-state licensure)
  • Active, unrestricted DEA registration
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
  • Minimum 2 years of post-residency clinical experience in family medicine, primary care, or outpatient internal medicine preferred
  • Prior VA, IHS, DoD, or other federal healthcare experience strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with electronic health records; CPRS/VistA familiarity is a plus
  • Ability to successfully pass federal credentialing, fingerprinting, and background investigation
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and clear E-Verify confirmation
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and a commitment to veteran-centered care
  • Veterans and protected veterans encouraged to apply in accordance with VEVRAA

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent, comprehensive primary care to adult and geriatric veterans within the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model
  • Conduct thorough history and physical examinations, develop differential diagnoses, and create evidence-based treatment plans
  • Diagnose and manage acute, same-day, and chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, COPD, cardiovascular disease, and mental health disorders
  • Order and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and other diagnostic tests; consult with specialty services as appropriate
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with the VA National Formulary, evidence-based guidelines, and applicable federal regulations
  • Perform Health Risk Assessment and goal setting for prevention and chronic disease management
  • Deliver preventive care including annual exams, immunizations, age- and risk-appropriate screenings, and lifestyle counseling
  • Complete and document VA clinical reminders and quality measures within established timeframes
  • Coordinate referrals to specialty care, behavioral health, and ancillary services within the VA system and through Community Care
  • Document all clinical encounters accurately and timely in CPRS/VistA in compliance with VA documentation standards
  • Collaborate with nurses, pharmacists, social workers, behavioral health providers, and other PACT members to deliver coordinated, veteran-centered care
  • Participate in quality improvement, peer review, and performance measure initiatives as required by the facility
  • Maintain compliance with all VA policies, Joint Commission standards, HIPAA, and applicable federal regulations
  • Complete and maintain credentialing, privileging, and continuing medical education requirements throughout the assignment
