The Pharmacy Technician will assist in various pharmacy activities under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Your responsibilities will include preparing, delivering, and restocking medications; performing order entry; procuring drugs; billing. You will carry out your job duties according to written procedures and guidelines based on pharmacy standards and regulatory requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and dispense medications by measuring, counting, labeling, and packaging prescriptions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist
  • Process prescription orders accurately, including entering patient and prescription data into pharmacy systems
  • Assist pharmacists and healthcare providers by gathering necessary information and supporting workflow efficiency
  • Prepare and compound medications (including IV admixtures and sterile products) following hospital protocols and USP standards
  • Process medication orders from electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) with accuracy and urgency
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas, including automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) and nursing units
  • Maintain medication inventory by restocking, tracking controlled substances, and monitoring expiration dates
  • Support medication safety initiatives, including double-checks, labeling, and documentation
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, and clinical staff to ensure timely and safe medication delivery
  • Comply with hospital policies and regulatory standards, including Joint Commission and state/federal regulations

Schedule: This position is does not have regularly scheduled hours and will cover shifts as needed. Shifts will vary between Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am to 9:00pm. This position may be required to work weekends and holidays as needed.
About the Facility: The Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a TRICARE certified and Joint Commission-accredited behavioral health facility located in Norfolk, VA. The hospital provides acute and residential and partial hospitalization for children and teens exhibiting behavioral and or mental health concerns. This facility treats patients from ages 4 to 18
About the Pharmacy: The pharmacy hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. This centralized inpatient pharmacy will use CPOE and eMAR along with RX_HCS Clinical and Omnicell automated dispensing systems.
You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Active applicable Virginia Pharmacy Technician license in good standing
  • Recent work experience as a Pharmacy Technician, ideally in a hospital or outpatient setting
  • Proficiency with pharmacy software

Preferred Qualification:
  • PTCB/CPhT

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
