Job description

Job Summary

The Utilities Worker is responsible for performing a wide range of facility maintenance, repair, and light construction tasks across assigned sites This requires practical skills and knowledge in such trades as: plumbing, electrical, painting, light maintenance and construction activities. May also perform routine custodial work.

Pay Range:

$22.00 - $26.00 per hour

Shift:

Sun 8:00 am - 6:30pm

Primary Job Functions

  • Perform general building repairs that do not require a specialized trade license, including painting, basic carpentry, light plumbing/bathroom repairs, door and hardware repair.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs as needed
  • Inspect facilities, equipment, and surfaces to identify maintenance, repair, or replacement needs.
  • Maintains the general cleanliness and appearance of assigned spaces. Cleans assigned areas including vacuuming and mopping floors.
  • Restocks assigned areas and maintain utility supplies in utility/janitor closets. Restock paper goods and soap regularly throughout the facility.
  • Supports movement of materials within the facility, providing escort service for cash deposits. Completes necessary reports and maintains records and logs regarding situations in the facility.
  • Sets up conference rooms and assists in organizing food and beverage preparation for meetings and events.
  • Responds to facility emergencies and notifies appropriate staff after hours of problems that require additional personnel.
  • May perform one or more of the following: open and/or close facility; assist with general clerk, inventory clerk, and maintenance specialist functions; assist in snow removal and groundskeeping; assist in moving of furniture; respond to service/assistance calls for access control; monitor alarm panels and security systems; prepare biohazard waste for transport; perform replacement of liquid nitrogen gases. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Sorts and prepares for pick-up general US mail and interoffice mail. Prepares outgoing mail to be either stamped locally or prepared for stamping at a central location.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered

Experience

  • Preferred: Job-related experience

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.
  • Busy environment with frequent interruptions and routine changes in work schedule
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations.
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.
  • Knowledge of general carpentry and maintenance as well as basic plumbing.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
