Under general direction of the Construction Office Chief, incumbent serves as a Construction Engineers; and/or as a Resident Engineer on a complex project (or group of projects) requiring a large staff to monitor the contractor's operations. Directing the processing of payment to contractors and change orders; responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the difficult engineering and administrative tasks of the District Construction Field Office. Directing the processing of Construction Contract Claims.

  • Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

  • Knowledgeable and experienced in leading and supervising the work of a professional staff, and implementation of Department personnel policies related to the supervision and protection of employees.
  • Your Caltrans construction contract administration experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing including technical reports, and group presentations for various groups and settings, such as, public information meetings, city councils and their staff, Caltrans Executives and Office Chiefs, Dispute Review Boards, industry associations, and professional organizations.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in estimating and negotiating with Project Managers, and managing construction support resources.
  • Ability to build & strengthen partnerships with Caltrans' internal & external customers, including other Caltrans Divisions, local cities, County and MTA.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with the application of Construction Procedure Directives and Construction Policy Bulletins.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in construction claims resolution experience.
