Consignment Associate information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Consignment Associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Consignment Associate, you need strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and basic retail or inventory management experience, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory tracking software, and consignment platform tools is typically required. Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills help you build rapport with consignors and buyers alike. These skills ensure efficient processing, accurate inventory management, and positive client experiences, which are vital for success in consignment retail environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Consignment Associates and how can they be managed effectively?

Consignment Associates often encounter challenges such as managing fluctuating inventory levels, accurately assessing the value of incoming items, and maintaining clear communication with consignors. To manage these effectively, it's important to develop strong organizational skills, become familiar with pricing trends, and use inventory management systems. Building rapport with consignors and customers also helps ensure smooth transactions and repeat business. Regular training and staying updated on industry best practices can further support success in this role.

What are Consignment Associates?

Consignment Associates are professionals who work with consignment stores or businesses to manage the intake, pricing, display, and sale of consigned goods, which are items sold on behalf of their owners. They evaluate items for quality and authenticity, handle customer inquiries, and help ensure that both consignors and customers have a positive experience. Consignment Associates also track inventory, process sales transactions, and may assist with marketing or merchandising tasks. Their role is key to ensuring a smooth operation and maximizing sales for both the store and the consignors.

Job description

MY SISTER’S CLOSET

is Hiring for an Intake Specialist

at our Location at

Encinitas Village  •  Encinitas, CA 92024

ABOUT MY SISTER’S CLOSET

My Sister’s Closet has been a trusted name in luxury consignment since 1991. We specialize in consigning designer clothing, couture handbags, shoes, and accessories — giving consignors a smart way to earn from their closets and shoppers the opportunity to discover exceptional high-end fashion at an outstanding value. Our clientele expects nothing less than the best, and our Consignment Buyers are the reason we deliver on that promise every single day.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable Consignment Buyer to join our team. This is a role for someone who truly lives and breathes luxury fashion — someone who can spot an authentic Chanel from across the room, knows what is trending this season, and can make our consignors feel seen, respected, and valued.

You will be the face of the buying experience at My Sister’s Closet, evaluating and selecting the gorgeous pieces our clientele expects while delivering an impeccable level of service to every consignor who walks through our doors.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Evaluate incoming designer clothing, handbags, shoes, and accessories for quality, condition, and consignment potential
  • Authenticate couture and luxury designer items with confidence and accuracy
  • Select pieces that align with current fashion trends and the elevated tastes of our clientele
  • Communicate buying decisions to consignors in a professional, warm, and respectful manner
  • Accurately process accepted items using our consignment management and POS systems
  • Stay current on luxury brand releases, authentication standards, and resale market trends
  • Maintain an organized and polished buying station befitting our brand
  • Collaborate with the store team and assist in other areas of the boutique as needed

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Your experience is valued here. We offer:

  • Competitive hourly pay based on level of experience (DOE)
  • Commission and bonus potential for eligible employees
  • 401(k) with company match — available to both full-time and part-time employees who meet enrollment criteria
  • Pet care benefits available to part-time employees
  • Full-time employees are also eligible for co-paid medical, dental, vision, life, critical care, and accident insurance, plus paid vacation

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Eco Chic Consignments reserves the right to conduct background checks on pre-hire candidates and employees. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of these checks where applicable.

Do you have the eye for luxury?

We’d love to meet you. Apply in person at your nearest My Sister’s Closet location or submit your resume online.
