Job description

SUMMARY

Senior technologist position that supports Subaru of America's (SOA's) business objectives by identifying new technologies, developing the telematics technology strategy, and mentoring the Connected Vehicle (CV) Information Technology (IT) teams; this includes identifying, defining, and championing the standards, patterns, and common practices required to ensure our engineering ecosystem operates with the discipline and predictability of a modern technology organization. Works across all engineering teams to establish and maintain consistency of processes, tools, architectural approaches, and quality expectations while preventing siloed delivery and ensuring features and services are cohesive, reusable, and aligned to a shared strategy. By serving as an architect and leader, ensures that engineering teams build solutions that are aligned, interoperable, secure, and maintainable.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Connected Vehicle (CV) Technology Strategy Development: 

    • Owns and drives discussion across engineering and business teams to create an actionable roadmap that accelerates digital transformation.

  • Technology Innovation: 
    • Researches, tests, and evangelizes technologies that will provide Subaru with a competitive advantage in the automotive industry; findings and recommendations to include cost versus business benefit models and implementation roadmaps. 
    • Determines selective additions and effective reuse of technology along with elimination of systems and environments no longer delivering value.
  • Architecture Design and Governance: 
    • Develops and governs technology architecture standards, reference patterns, and decision frameworks that ensure systems and services meet all availability, performance, and security objectives, which includes understanding the current state of the technology footprint, business strategic goals, and market challenges.
  • Drive Standards, Common Practices, and CrossEngineering Consistency: 
    • Identifies, defines, and champions the standards, patterns, and common practices required to ensure our engineering ecosystem operates with the discipline and predictability of a modern technology organization.
    • Works with all engineering teams to establish and maintain consistency in processes, tools, architectural approaches, and quality expectations.
  • Coach and Lead: 
    • Ensures smooth change management and adoption of new technologies and techniques via structured training sessions and individual coaching as needed.
  • Cultivate Vendor Partnerships: 
    • Develops and maintains relationships with critical vendor partners. 
    • Understands and communicates vendor roadmaps and strategic goals with the objective of taking advantage of potential wins while avoiding challenges.
  • Cultivate Internal Partnerships: 
    • Develops comprehensive understanding of business processes and priorities and builds strong working relationships with internal business partners, other CV teams, and Information Technology (IT) colleagues.
  • Shares responsibility for managing additions to the technology portfolio through reviews of the business portfolio. Partners with other CV Architect to provide final approvals of all architectural decisions to optimize technology selections in addition to guiding domain changes.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of architectural standards, integration patterns, governance practices, cybersecurity principles and guidelines, industry trends, and competitive trends for multiple architectural specialties. Stays updated with the latest trends and technologies.

REQUIRED SKILLS & PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced understanding of cloud technologies and cloud migration principles and techniques.

  • Understanding of how to establish DevSecOps, helping define the foundational standards, practices, and guardrails that engineering teams will follow.

  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in presenting complex topics to different audiences.

  • Ability to easily break down complex, ambiguous problems and propose novel solutions.

  • Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced environment, solving unique and challenging software problems, and developing innovative solutions.

  • Extensive experience working in a team environment, leading collaboration efforts, and sharing new ideas to support achieving collective team goals.

  • Consultative skills including issue diagnosis, unpacking, and advising on executive-level challenges.

  • Strong relationship-building skills.

  • Intrinsically curious and passionate about researching current and emerging trends in technology.

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and achieve cohesion among different individuals and functions.

  • Agile product management or corporate development experience Preferred

  • Experience with telematics or connected vehicle (CV) technologies Preferred

  • Experience working in the automotive industry Preferred

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate, Preferred

  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional, Preferred

  • AWS Certified Security - Specialty, Preferred

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in computer science, business, or related field required or H.S. Diploma and equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of degree required. At least 12-15 years of diverse technology experience including Java application development, PLSQL/Oracle Database, web services, and mobile app development required.

  • Office Location: Camden, NJ apart of the Greater Philadelphia Area (Philly)

  • Hybrid Role: Hybrid Role - Remote work 2 days per week (after 90 days) [Wednesdays & Fridays]
