Job description

Position Summary

The Configuration Manager will own and maintain product configurations across all drone platforms, including Black Widow military and commercial variants, FPV configurations, and future aircraft programs. This role ensures integrity, traceability, and compliance of hardware and software configurations across the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience with SAP for enterprise data management and Arena PLM for product lifecycle and change control, along with a solid understanding of aerospace or UAS environments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain configuration management (CM) processes, policies, and procedures aligned with industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
  • Manage product structures, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and revisions within SAP and Arena PLM systems.
  • Manage configuration control for all Black Widow variants, including military and commercial builds.
  • Maintain variant-specific details such as battery quantities, field repair kit sizes, payload options, accessories, spares, and packaging requirements.
  • Own FPV drone configurations and ensure accurate build standards for each product version.
  • Support configuration management for any new drone platforms developed or manufactured by the company.
  • Lead configuration identification, control, status accounting, and audits for UAS programs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of product configurations, including hardware, software, and firmware baselines.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure configuration consistency across all systems.
  • Support internal and external audits, including regulatory compliance and customer requirements.
  • Track and report configuration status and metrics to stakeholders.
  • Ensure traceability between requirements, design artifacts, and delivered products.
  • Assist in risk identification related to configuration discrepancies and propose mitigation strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–7+ years of configuration management experience in aerospace, defense, or UAS industries.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP (ERP) and Arena PLM.
  • Strong understanding of BOM structures, revision control, and change management processes, including experience with configurable or variant BOMs.
  • Familiarity with UAS systems, including avionics, embedded software, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with configuration audits and compliance standards (AS9100, MIL-STD-973, or similar).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Certification in Configuration Management (e.g., CMPIC or equivalent).
  • Experience working in regulated environments (FAA, DoD, or similar).
  • Knowledge of software configuration management tools (e.g., Git, SVN).
  • Experience with digital thread/digital twin concepts.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems (MES) and supply chain integration.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to walk, stand, and navigate large indoor and outdoor facilities for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in designated areas or when performing specific tasks, in accordance with safety protocols and company policy.
  • May be required to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch during inspections, maintenance walk-throughs, or emergency response situations.
  • Regular exposure to facility operations including noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and industrial equipment.
  • Occasional off-hours or weekend work required for emergency facility responses or projects as needed
  • Requires frequent use of a computer and other standard office equipment for documentation, communication, and coordination tasks.
