Job description

Job Title: Configuration Manager

The Configuration Manager will be responsible for implementing disciplined CM practices, ensuring compliance with DoD and industry standards, and maintaining the accuracy and traceability of system configurations from concept through sustainment.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead Configuration Management strategy across multiple programs and locations to ensure standardization, compliance, and traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Establish and maintain configuration baselines (Functional, Allocated, and Product) and control changes to hardware, software, firmware, and documentation in accordance with program requirements and government regulations.
  • Coordinate and lead Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) ensuring timely disposition of Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Change Notices (CNs), waivers, and deviations.
  • Maintain detailed CM records and generate Configuration Status Accounting (CSA) reports to document and communicate the state of configurations and changes across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute Functional Configuration Audits (FCA) and Physical Configuration Audits (PCA) in collaboration with Quality Assurance and Engineering teams as necessary.
  • Interface with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Quality, Program Management, and Manufacturing to ensure alignment and compliance with configuration practices.
  • Ensure configuration compliance with all contract deliverables, data rights, and U.S. Government (DoD, DCMA, etc.) mandates.
  • Lead CM tool implementation and process automation for configuration tracking, workflow control, and integration with PLM/ALM systems (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter, DOORS, JIRA, Git, SVN).
  • Support subcontractor configuration management efforts, including the review and approval of supplier documentation and change proposals.
  • Train and mentor CM team members and engineering staff on CM best practices, processes, and tools.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Configuration Management in a DoD, defense, aerospace, or similar highly regulated industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of DoD standards and CM frameworks, including MIL-STD-973, MIL-HDBK-61A, EIA-649, and ISO 10007.
  • Demonstrated experience leading CM efforts for complex hardware/software systems across the full acquisition lifecycle.
  • Expertise in CM software tools, including Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter), and version control systems (e.g., Git, ClearCase).
  • Proven ability to conduct FCAs/PCAs and work closely with government customers and auditors
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder coordination skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, or related discipline.
  • CMII (Certified Configuration Management Professional) or equivalent industry certification
  • Understanding of cybersecurity compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-171, CMMC).
  • Experience managing CM in multi-site or multinational development environments.
