The Work

The Systems Analyst will analyze business requirements, documenting system processes, and assisting in the design and implementation of information systems that improve mission performance. The Systems Analyst I will work under the guidance of senior analysts and project managers, contributing to requirements analysis, system documentation, testing, and user support within a structured SDLC environment.

  • Elicit, capture, and refine business and functional requirements from stakeholders using interviews, workshops, document analysis, and existing system review.
  • Translate business needs into clear, concise, and testable requirements (business, functional, and non-functional).
  • Develop and maintain requirements documentation, including business requirements documents (BRDs), functional requirements documents (FRDs), user stories, and use cases.
  • Assist in maintaining requirements traceability from initial capture through design, testing, and implementation.
  • Analyze existing systems, workflows, and data flows to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop process models, use case diagrams, and basic data flow diagrams to support system design and stakeholder understanding.
  • Participate in solution analysis and alternatives evaluations, documenting pros/cons with respect to requirements, constraints, and risks.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, and database administrators to clarify requirements and support solution design.
  • Assist in the preparation of system specifications, configuration documents, and interface control documents under supervision of senior staff.
  • Support configuration and parameterization of COTS/GOTS solutions where applicable, following established standards and procedures.
  • Support test planning by developing test conditions and detailed test cases based on requirements and design artifacts.
  • Execute functional and regression tests, document results, and log defects; assist in defect triage and retesting.
  • Verify that delivered functionality meets documented requirements and quality standards prior to user acceptance.
  • Assist in the development of user guides, quick reference cards, and training materials.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) activities, including coordinating sessions, capturing feedback, and tracking issues.
  • Provide Tier 2 functional support, helping end users understand system capabilities and basic troubleshooting steps.
  • Contribute to project documentation including status reports, meeting minutes, action item logs, and risk/issue logs.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (e.g., stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews/retrospectives) or traditional project meetings, as applicable.
  • Adhere to client and corporate SDLC, configuration management, and documentation standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • 2 years required – Skill in analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing computer systems.
  • 2 years required – Ability to write detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer systems.
  • 2 years required – Ability to review computer system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to determine if a requested program or program change is possible within the existing system.
  • 2 years required – Skill in solving problems; in scheduling, testing, installing, and implementing programs; and in troubleshooting computer systems.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
