Job Description:
Client: BP - British Petroleum
Location: Onsite fulltime - 201 Helios Way Houston, Texas 77079
Contract: 12+ months
Systems Analyst (Application Support / BAU / Level III)
Focus: Application Support / BAU / Troubleshooting
Overview
  • We are seeking a Systems Analyst to support business-as-usual (BAU) operations, acting as a critical bridge between application support and BAU delivery teams.
  • This role is ideal for someone who can analyze issues independently, read and interpret code, and collaborate closely with developers to resolve complex production issues.
  • This is not a heavily business-facing role, but requires occasional interaction with stakeholders. The primary focus is on support, troubleshooting, and keeping systems running ("keeping the lights on").
  • This role is focused on support and technical analysis-not pure development or pure business analysis
  • Ideal candidate is a "technical systems analyst" or "support-focused BA" who can read code
  • Must be comfortable diving deep into backend issues and databases
  • Will primarily interface with development and support teams, not business stakeholders
  • Critical to have strong communication skills due to cross-team collaboration

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Level III application support across custom enterprise applications
  • Perform deep-dive troubleshooting and root cause analysis on production issues
  • Analyze issues escalated from support teams and package findings for development teams
  • Act as a bridge between application support and BAU delivery/development teams
  • Conduct independent analysis before engaging developers ("analyze before hand-off")
  • Read and interpret code to diagnose issues (no hands-on development required)
  • Partner with developers to walk through code and resolve defects collaboratively
  • Work against a backlog of incidents, defects, and enhancement requests
  • Support application enhancements and continuous improvement efforts
  • Perform backend / database troubleshooting with a strong SQL focus
  • Identify manual processes and recommend automation opportunities
  • Support incident management and ITSM processes (ServiceNow or equivalent tools)
  • Assist with strategic/architectural thinking to reduce recurring issues and improve system stability

Required Qualifications
  • Strong experience in application support and BAU environments
  • Proven ability to read and understand code for troubleshooting purposes
  • Strong SQL skills (querying, analysis, backend troubleshooting)
  • Experience with ITSM tools (ServiceNow or similar)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to work independently
  • Experience handling support escalations and working across support + development teams
