DESCRIPTION

The Technology Repair Technician provides technical support for Chromebook repair, OS upgrade and staging within the Howard County Public School System. This position assists with diagnosing, repairing, updating, and preparing Chromebook devices and related equipment for student use. The role is ideal for individuals interested in technology, computer repair, and hands-on technical support experience in a K-12 educational environment. The Technology Repair Technician works collaboratively with technology staff to support the large-scale technology project while maintaining a professional, organized, and customer-focused approach. This assignment will begin as soon as possible and will end on or before October 31, 2026.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all the qualifications below to be considered for the vacancy.

Education:

High school diploma or GED.

Experience:

  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and software support.

  • Ability to follow technical instructions, procedures, and established workflows.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Ability to lift, move, and organize technology equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

  • Ability to perform work requiring standing, walking, bending, lifting, and physical activity throughout the workday.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience repairing and troubleshooting Chromebook or computer devices.

  • Coursework or training related to computer hardware, and technical support.

  • Experience supporting large-scale technology projects.

  • Experience working in a school system, customer service, or team-based environment.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Diagnose and repair Chromebook hardware and software issues.

  • Configure and prepare Chromebook devices and accessories for deployment.

  • Assist with large-scale Chromebook repair refresh project.

  • Utilize ticketing system to document and complete assigned tasks.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.

  • Communicate professionally and effectively with staff, supervisors, and colleagues.

  • Follow department procedures, safety practices, and established technical standards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of technology operations.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 7am - 3:30pm

Supervisory references will be contacted prior to any offer of employment. Recommended candidates will be required to provide references from current and recent supervisors.

All employees, regular and temporary, must be fingerprinted, have a criminal background investigation completed, and successfully complete the Maryland Employment History Review, pursuant to Section 6-113.2 of the Education Article, Annotated Code of Maryland. In addition, some positions will require completion of a physical examination and/or drug testing.
