Histology Lab Aide Location: Bakersfield, CA Schedule: Mondayโ€“Friday | 6:00 AM โ€“ 2:30 PM Employment Type: Full-Time Job Description We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Laboratory Aide to provide essential support to a busy Histology team. This position assists with the organization, preparation, documentation, and maintenance activities necessary to support efficient day-to-day laboratory operations. The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, and capable of maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced laboratory environment. Previous laboratory experience is preferred but not required. Job Responsibilities Provide daily operational support to the Histology team. Prepare laboratory requisitions for processing and administrative review. Perform block and slide reconciliation prior to delivery to pathologists. Accurately label laboratory slides according to established procedures. File, organize, retrieve, and maintain tissue blocks and slides. Perform slide coverslipping and assist with slide repairs as needed. Prepare laboratory buffers according to established procedures. Assist with routine maintenance of tissue processors. Assist with routine maintenance of laboratory stainers. Retrieve and process physician requests through the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Locate corresponding tissue blocks for additional sectioning by Histology technical staff. Pull blocks and slides in response to laboratory and physician requests. Maintain accurate quality assurance (QA) logs and other required documentation. Assist with unpacking, organizing, and storing laboratory supplies. Maintain an organized and efficient work area. Follow established laboratory procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards. Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and other team members. Perform additional laboratory support duties as assigned by management. Required Qualifications Education High School Diploma or equivalent required. Skills & Abilities Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Reliable and professional work habits. Strong work ethic and commitment to completing assigned responsibilities. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently with appropriate direction. Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a laboratory team. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working in a clinical, pathology, histology, or other laboratory environment. Familiarity with Histology laboratory workflow. Experience handling, organizing, or retrieving tissue blocks and slides. Experience with slide labeling, filing, and coverslipping. Familiarity with laboratory quality assurance documentation. Experience with routine laboratory equipment maintenance. Laboratory Information System (LIS) experience is a plus. Experience working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
